A fun and light abstract in which you try to assemble one of the two nest or tree patterns that you’ve drawn (but is unknown to the other player(s)). All players can move any color pieces, so there’s much bluffing and blocking taking place.

One Eternal Round
mbmbmbmbmb

Now I like the feel of this. A quick filler type game where you try to hide your intent as you make moves.

I'm a bit confused that we might be playing wrong. The rulebook indicates you take two actions, and each "move" action is moving 1 piece twice or 2 pieces once. This means that you can move four pieces once on each turn.

In all three rounds that we played, it seemed like the game ended in ~5 minutes. As in, one of the rounds ended on the second turn. Then we tried a round where you had to complete both hidden objectives which made it take a bit longer.

Any thoughts?

This is a much better filler than the random IceDice. A solid 6.5.

As above, I played this as part of a "pyramid throwdown" (three simultaneous games, with the winner the one who wins twice). I had figured out which goal he was going for and somehow I still failed to block him.

The list was delayed, but my entry was delayed further because I was at GenCon when it was posted.

Only two things on the dust list, both of them Looney Pyramids games. In fact, I played both of them simultaneously in a "pyramid throwdown" (three two-player games at the same time, with the winner being the player who wins at least twice). The throwdown format has brought back some games in recent months that I hadn't played in a while. We determine the games to play semi-randomly; unless we can come up with a specific reason to veto a game, we usually play whatever comes up. And playing simultaneously with other games changes my perception of a game.

This is the only game that I unambiguously have the only play (with my opponent also logging the same play). I suspect I could also add Launchpad 23 to the list, but my opponent had 2 logged plays while I only had 1. I suspect that's an error, but I don't know for sure. Both were part of a "pyramid throwdown" which involves playing three pyramid games simultaneously. The third game in the throwdown, Pharaoh, had lots of plays. After the throwdown, we played a single game of Caldera. Usually, it's Carthoris who prevents me from having the only play of Caldera, but this month it was someone in Finland named Lauri.

[25] Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92

The opening back beat – the oh so generic “mmm chh, mmm chh” of so many club hits makes me roll my eyes initially. But before I know it the music has engaged me, surprised me, dared me to underestimate it.

I’m generally well-disposed towards electronic music, but why did I pick Aphex Twin from the list? I remember hearing that they were these really influential and seminal pioneers of electronic music who’d been blazing trails through the genre, rocking out with their Moogs from the late sixties onwards, so a great chance to fill a gaping hole in my cultural knowledge.

Turns out I was thinking of Tangerine Dream.

I'll admit, I'm a terrible Twin Win player. I consistently lose. My brain has a blind spot that prevents me from noticing obvious ploys against me. And yet I come back for more. Twin Win passed the "Let's Play Again" test, and is best played with three players.

My nephew learned Twin Win from me, and even he, at age seven in his first learning sessions, is better at Twin Win than I am.

Turns out that one of the more active users from this area was also a former university classmate of mine. We had previously split math homework between us, though I never knew he was a gamer during those years. We graduated at the same time. We had also both attended the same high school at the same time.

After I discovered we also shared a passion for board gaming, I started gaming with him. But it doesn't end there. It turns out we both cherish games by Wolfgang Kramer above any other designer. He is like my gaming twin. We often say the same thing at the same time (we call that twinstincts). Furthermore I learned last year that we share the same birthday.

Crazy.

#6 - One of the many games playable with the Icehouse pieces. This one has hidden victory conditions and lots of "take that" play. However, my husband and I have found it to be a fast, engaging, and competitive game experience.

We play until one of us fulfills both goals. Then we want to play again. The game is portable and just a blast to play any where any time.

I have to thank the following user for recommending it to us:

First play = 2014-04-12

Twin Win had been recommended to me several times; I finally played it due our monthly tournament which was about secret objectives this month. In Twin Win, you have 2 secret objectives (e.g. make a red nest or make a black tree) and fulfilling either one means you win.

It seems a fine light little filler. It also gives me a use for my rainbow stash (most of my pyramids are sorted into monocolor stashes).

So far I'm not sure if it might be drawish assuming competent play by both players; it seems like one of us won by the other brain-farting and overlooking that one possible goal which wasn't one of one's own was about to be fulfilled. But I hesitate to assume that after only a few plays.

So far neither of us has found it tempting to exercise the option to spend an action swapping out a goal for a different unknown unused goal.

Twin Win uses its own little 3x3 board which is - alas - different from a Martian coaster, but easy to draw. (Or in principle you could just not use a board, as in the current representative photo...)

You move clockwise around the outer spaces or both directions between the center square and each of the 4 side squares adjacent to the center.
