3 plays.

I taught Twin Win to Fogus & Son. Fogus won all three very quickly!

This is further evidence that I have negative skill with this game.

This is one of those games that I feel like I played incorrectly. I've played approximately 10 games and have never lost. Something is wrong with this picture.

The opening back beat – the oh so generic “mmm chh, mmm chh” of so many club hits makes me roll my eyes initially. But before I know it the music has engaged me, surprised me, dared me to underestimate it.

I’m generally well-disposed towards electronic music, but why did I pick Aphex Twin from the list? I remember hearing that they were these really influential and seminal pioneers of electronic music who’d been blazing trails through the genre, rocking out with their Moogs from the late sixties onwards, so a great chance to fill a gaping hole in my cultural knowledge.

Turns out I was thinking of Tangerine Dream.

Taught to Nephew, who couldn't grok the deduction aspect of the game.

Taught to Niece with a simpler 1d6 movement points variant. She won both times!

Type: Curse
Title: Conjoined Twins

When you receive this curse, you must link arms with your nearest neighbor. It should be noted that this curse could be viewed as a blessing if you have a crush on your neighbor. It should also be said that this curse could be the worst of curses seeing if your neighbor is annoying slash smells.

You are allowed to use both hands however one of your arms will be linked to your neighbor, limiting your full usage. This curse is broken once someone uses the teleporting treasure marker (cause everyone knows that you can't teleport with linked arms...right?)

I'll admit, I'm a terrible Twin Win player. I consistently lose. My brain has a blind spot that prevents me from noticing obvious ploys against me. And yet I come back for more. Twin Win passed the "Let's Play Again" test, and is best played with three players.

My nephew learned Twin Win from me, and even he, at age seven in his first learning sessions, is better at Twin Win than I am.

Twin Win has kept its #6 place from my last list.

Turns out that one of the more active users from this area was also a former university classmate of mine. We had previously split math homework between us, though I never knew he was a gamer during those years. We graduated at the same time. We had also both attended the same high school at the same time.

After I discovered we also shared a passion for board gaming, I started gaming with him. But it doesn't end there. It turns out we both cherish games by Wolfgang Kramer above any other designer. He is like my gaming twin. We often say the same thing at the same time (we call that twinstincts). Furthermore I learned last year that we share the same birthday.

Crazy.

#6 - One of the many games playable with the Icehouse pieces. This one has hidden victory conditions and lots of "take that" play. However, my husband and I have found it to be a fast, engaging, and competitive game experience.

We play until one of us fulfills both goals. Then we want to play again. The game is portable and just a blast to play any where any time.

I have to thank the following user for recommending it to us:

First play = 2014-04-12

Twin Win had been recommended to me several times; I finally played it due our monthly tournament which was about secret objectives this month. In Twin Win, you have 2 secret objectives (e.g. make a red nest or make a black tree) and fulfilling either one means you win.

It seems a fine light little filler. It also gives me a use for my rainbow stash (most of my pyramids are sorted into monocolor stashes).

So far I'm not sure if it might be drawish assuming competent play by both players; it seems like one of us won by the other brain-farting and overlooking that one possible goal which wasn't one of one's own was about to be fulfilled. But I hesitate to assume that after only a few plays.

So far neither of us has found it tempting to exercise the option to spend an action swapping out a goal for a different unknown unused goal.

Twin Win uses its own little 3x3 board which is - alas - different from a Martian coaster, but easy to draw. (Or in principle you could just not use a board, as in the current representative photo...)

You move clockwise around the outer spaces or both directions between the center square and each of the 4 side squares adjacent to the center.

1) Provided you had enough funds, what one characteristic will ALWAYS prevent you from purchasing a game?
If I had an infinite supply of money, I might just buy every game that I could find. Since I don't have an infinite supply of money, I just have to buy games I like that others are unlikely to own. There are a few must-own games, but most games I'm content to play with friends' copies or copies from the CABS library.

2) What is the last game you played? Did you enjoy it?
Twin Win. The end-game dragged out a little bit, but it was fun.

3) What movie would you like to see?
Nothing springs immediately to mind. With the upcoming release of the Back to the Future game by Looney Labs, I was thinking it might be time to re-watch the BttF series of movies again.

4) Who do you predict will win the 2010 FIFA World Cup?
I'm sure the USA has no chance, but I'll predict a big upset so I'll look like a genius if it happens.

5) Do you typically play more or fewer games during the summer months?
Origins is in June, so "more."

6) Which game are you looking forward to owning or playing?
The aforementioned Back to the Future game, I guess.

7) Is there a game you love that you're unable to convince people to play?
The answer to this question used to be Zendo, but happily that's not the case any more. I don't play Euchre very much, but I don't try very hard. I recently discovered that I have several boardgaming friends who like it, so you never know.

8) Do you think that applications for mobile devices will eventually supplant board games?
No.

9) How do you organize your games?
Haphazardly.

10) Name your favorite alcoholic beverage.
I don't drink enough alcohol to have a favorite.

Two people got this correct (5.71%).

This one was a bit obscure, but the graph was right there in its gallery, if you happened upon it. I saw it there when I clicked on a picture from the front page, recently, and I thought maybe others would have done the same. If so, it must not have made much of an impression, because only two or three people recognized it.

I got a couple good answers that didn't quite make the cut. Someone guessed Pachisi, which I had to think about for a minute, because it almost works in terms of game play, but it doesn't quite work for movement in and out of the start and home spaces.

A couple people guessed Loopin' Louie, which sounds ridiculous at first, but:
Midaga wrote:
Louie's plane goes around clockwise. There are four paddles and four neutral spaces around the axis. The plane just passes the neutral spots clockwise. At the players' positions they can decide to let the plane pass, or to interact. In the first case the plane continues clockwise, in the latter case the plane will return to the center, and then tips towards one of the four players, thus completes the graph.
I almost had to give credit for this, but I believe Louie's plane can also fly out of the center to one of the neutral spaces, so there would need to be edges going out from the center to the corners.

Three Men's Morris was another good guess, but doesn't account for the directed edges.

The winner of the 1 drawing for this item is referee.

This requires 1 Treehouse set, a 3 x 3 grid & 10 homemade cards. (The cards are also downloadable from the publishers website.) Since I don't have blank playing cards & didn't feel like cutting out cards that I printed myself I wrote on index cards & slid them into card sleeves with a colored opaque back.

I plan to try this on my next game night.

My first microbadge I got with a Christmas coupon. I had been reading only Philip K. Dick for a while, so I decided it would be a good microbadge. It served me well as my only microbadge for quite some time.

When I first started lurking here regularly, Twin Win was my favorite game. I was very excited about these little pyramids. And guess what? I still play a lot of games with them. In fact, I need to play Twin Win again because it's been a while.

mb

I play with yellow. In fact, I have a difficult time playing a game when I don't play yellow. I love the way tiny yellow cubes look like tiny little bricks of cheese.

In this game you move pieces around a 3x3 grid in an attempt to make one of your two secret winning configurations before your opponent(s) makes one of their's.

It's a solid little game that plays deeper than the short, simple rules might suggest.

If I were still a single stash man, this might be my icehouse game of choice. I'd certainly be much more likely to play this game than Treehouse -- easier to teach, better to play.
