This guild is for Ottawa-area gamers who attend public gaming gatherings. There are now four open groups that meet biweekly. Pick the one that is closest to you or come out to all four if you really want to get some gaming in! There is a handy Calendar below on this guild page that has the game nights (except for the Barrhaven nights which are on the calendar on the Toys on Fire Ottawa guild page). Also, you may want to subscribe to the Ontario forum at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/forum/114/boardgamegeek/ontario since a message is usually posted a few days ahead of each game night to discuss what games to play.
Wednesday Night in Westboro
This is the original gaming group that meets every second week at 6:30 at the The Canadian Legion in Westboro (389 Richmond Road). Attendees at the Legion location are required to pay two dollars as a guest fee - pay to John (The General, AA_Gen_Jack) if he's there, and Mark L (MrZoz) if he isn't. The money collected goes to the Legion: it's the Legion's price of admission for guests, not a fee levied by the game group. You're also encouraged to make use of the bar - drinks are cheap! Inexpensive hot food is also generally available at the canteen downstairs. Outside food and drink is not permitted, and all visitors to The Canadian Legion are expected to remove their hats while indoors.
Annual membership cards are available (but not required for participation). One year membership to the Ottawa Gamers costs six dollars, which serves as a pre-pay of the $2 Legion guest fee for three sessions - contact Mark (userId "MrZoz" here) for specifics. The membership entitles you to a ten percent discount on gaming products at local board-game-carrying stores Fandom II, The Comic Book Shop, and Toys On Fire.
Thursday Night in Kanata
The meeting place for the Kanata group is Kanata Community Christian Reformed Church (KCCRC) at 46 Castlefrank Rd. They currently meet from 6:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. on alternating weeks to the Wednesday club. As with the Wednesday group, the Kanata group is asking for a toonie for visit.
Annual membership cards are available for five dollars, and that money is used to fund children's gaming events at local annual game convention CanGames. Steve Larkin (userid "srlarkin" here) now manages the Kanata Gamers memberships. As with the Wednesday group, membership entitles you to a ten percent discount on gaming products at local board-game-carrying stores Fandom II, The Comic Book Shop, and Toys On Fire.
Thursday in Orleans
There is a group that meets every second Thursday in Orleans on alternating weeks to the Wednesday club. They start at around 6:30 and go until about 10:00pm. The address is: Canadian Legion Branch 632 - Orleans, 800 Taylor Creek Road, upstairs via the door on the right. There is a bar and snacks available Please bring $2.00 as a donation for the Legion. Note that hats are not allowed in the Legion and that you must dress respectfully.
