I don't think it's temporary, but that's my opinion. Charley hasn't put out a podcast in a while, nor has his website been on-line for more than a month... which would be a real shame - his enthusiasm for the hobby was both obvious and contagious.

I wanted to say thanks for mentioning Getting Things Done. My office recently closed, so I got to move to a home office. That's great and all, but I could have some trouble staying focused (I am posting here, after all). But, I've been reading the book and using the basics of the system and I can't describe how relaxed I am! No more "Nuts, I forgot all about that!" or "What was that thing I had to do again?" moments.

Pure joy.

Went to www.littlewoodencubist.com today, and the web site isn't there. There's a message that says:

"This page is parked free, courtesy of GoDaddy.com."

Is the site down temporarily, or has it been shut down? Just wondering, especially due to the lack of activity in the guild.

Listened to #17 last week and want to thank you for what you had to say. Was good to get an honest answer about what was going on. I liked how you balanced the "comeback reflection" with just talking about games. Since Black Ops is going for $500, was cool to get to hear you open it up...I wouldn't pay $5.00 for Risk let alone $500 so it was an experience I wouldn't otherwise get. The T-shirt thing is ironic. I remember as kid being at the mall and seeing that exact shirt for sale. This was about 1981. I almost spent my allowance on it and then decided not to.

From the time I got back in the car to leave the mall till now, twenty-seven years later, I have always regreted not getting it.

I'm glad you're back Charley. I'm also glad to hear that you missed out on podcasting for the right reason.
Balancing family, work, and gaming can certainly be a challenge. It also very easy to get caught up in your passions and loose sight of the important things in life.
Although I love gaming, I don't get to do it very much. I have a local game group that meets regularly once a week, but I don't attend much, because I take my son to music lessons at the same time.
Sometimes I wish I could go gaming, but I do realize that what I'm doing is more important. I hope that I'll continue to stay objective about life, and that I won't need such a brutal wake-up call to remind me of what's important.
I do feel affirmed by your story, and it makes the burden of not gaming so much a little more bearable.

OK, I have my wonderful little push pin on the map. So I pull up the map to enlarge it and look around and I see a tab for Members. Hey, everyone has a little profile. Nifty! But... I go to my name and pull up the profile and I'm sent to the profile of some guy named Sal. What's up with that? Yes, to all who invoke nostalgia...yr right on. I still haven't scored a copy of the red-dragon covered box set (1979, right?) but I need to. I think THAT'S what I'm really after. I think I may buy the 4th edition, but the likelihood of me ever playing it is about 1 in 3,452. Unless someone holds my hand through a one-day rip-through on a tournament style thing. When it all went to "skills" I sort of glossed over.

I think like Preston what I really want is the pub, the equipment shop, and the trip to the dungeon to get the baddies that were deviling the local populace. As soon as I've got to spend three days writing backstory for my characters and "going to school," I think I'm out.

So, anybody got a the old boxed set up for sale? And remember, it's this or NOTHING:

Well, of COURSE I care about D&D 4/E...sort of.

I wasn't much interested in 2/E, I have 3/E but have not played it, never bothered to contribute to the 3.5/E scheme, and haven't played since 1/E. The "current"...and that keeps changing...edition is always of interest to me, even if only in an academic way.

The system seems to be getting in the way of the system. It's been a long time since I've seen the production end of D&D as much other than an escalating moneymaking plan. Change for the purpose of planned obsolescence.

I've been thinking of getting back into RPGing lately, but I think I'll have to either go 1/E or go to another system that lets me play without:
1. buying ten books before I can really get going;
2. fighting rules lawyers who have twenty books; or
3. worrying about whether I'm "current."

That said, yeah, I'll probably get the 4/E books...later, used or at a discount.

Not in the slightest. I've got all my original stuff from 30 years ago in the unlikely event I will get the chance to use it again. The nostalgia dictates that it never be sold though

Not at all interested in 4th edition. It ceased to be an enjoyable game after 2nd edition, thankfully I still have a ton of 2e stuff so maybe someday I'll be able to get another game going.
