I like the change, and think it is an improvement. It gives Antike a more distinct character in keeping with its theme, and a more unique identity that doesn't evoke memories of Carcassonne and Seafarers.

Thank you for your post. I didn't realize what the figures looked-like in profile, and now I see how they aren't like Abdow's Big Boy. I think I might agree with you that they're an improvement because they're less generic.
