much more colorful/colourful than the original. That in itself can be a two-edged sword. Some will like it more, others will like it less. To each their own.

Totally rad! However, I think I remember reading somewhere that they will be keeping the card art and that pales in comparison to this awesome box art.

Attrocious. Just awful looking... the strength of the original cover, which was the dominance of the foward face of the locomotive, is gone, and it's a street brawl for your attention in this design. The locomotive front was also suggesive of a clock face, which added a tiem element.... as did the spectral appearance of the famous heads in the original.... *sigh*

I agree completely with the above comment. The box art on the original was far superior.

I agree with both perspectives above. It is more colorful and has better illustrations & typography; however, the overall composition of the original is much better.

I'm very curious to see what's being done to the components (cards, board, beads, etc.). C'mon FRED, throw us a bone.

Thanks in Advance.

Can anybody give us a clue how to identify what edition is the game just by looking at the box? Is there a way?

The former cover art was God-awful!! It was poorly rendered in some ancient version of Photoshop by an inept amateur!
The new version is not only vibrant and dynamic, but professional looking. Plus, it embodies all of the elements of the original bush-league version (which I'm sure was probably the art direction...), only a hundred times better. I was embarrassed to pull out the first version BECAUSE of the cover.
The artist of the new version captures the passage of time, the history shaping influence of the characters in the game with well rendered portraits, and the technical advances that are the embodiment of the game.

An improvement over the amateurish original.

That said, it's not particularly good, the composition is simply bad. Why is that soldier as bright as the locomotive, it's lack of focus personified!
