That's not just ANY air hockey game. It's The Campaign for the Northern Territories of Canada. You're required to chart every change of every skating line for every team in the league for an entire season, recording every penalty and every missed shot, all while maintaining every piece of equipment (including running a little Zamboni machine across the playing surface after every period of play).
I have played it in a 4 player (2 per side) game which lasted for months. It is not a game for the casual wargamer!
However, it is actually a beautiful simulation of the North African conflict.
> Their are turns were the attack and counter attack push the opposing sides over several hexes and at the end you have two spent armies (Capability Point Allowances on the brink of surrender; supplies exhausted, brokendown vehicles all over the place) glaring at each other just wishing for one more battalion in reserve.
> The seemingly invincible starting Italian army does actually melt and their air force is decimated w/o any use of special rules to force the result. And no, with good play on the part of the British player - you won't strafe the British off the map.
> As either side you are constantly just on the brink of victory or disaster.
> Finally the logistics do calm down and turn into a routine which is not overly burdensome. You are always praying for more trucks and some times the best part of the victory was capturing some of the other guys trucks.
Honestly one of the finest simulations I have ever played. Mind you it is work...but, for the serious historian/wargamer it really should be on your bucket list.
