Yes, it seems to me they could have at least come up with something that looks and/or works somewhat like a real catapult or a trebuchet.

What's the point of a catapult if it's not for launching meeples?

in this picture, he's clearly playing by the rules and using a tile of some kind

can the toast thongs support meeple launching?
