My first painted Mancubus - it took over 3 hours, but was well worth it. The other 5 I'll paint together, so I won't have to wait for washes to dry and will likely clock them under 2 hours each.
That's badass, Guido! One little suggestion, though, is to try to match up the blood streak with the same feel as the blood streaks on the map tiles -- yours is a bit one-dimensional, not up to snuff with the absolutely AWESOME job on the rest of the mini.
I did use different kinds of splatters on the bases, this one is really rather bland. I'll see over the entire collection in the end and see if I want to do another do-over of the bases - I think when a group of them comes together, it doesn't look as bad. But you're definitely right, the effort I put into the base is in no comparison to the one I put into the mini itself...
(For an example of other base splatters, have a look at the pinky demons)
There are interesting techniques for splattering paint...Although would test on another surface first!
You pretty much put the paint on the bristols of your brush and then fan the brush with a finger [flicking the bristols] and it gives you a nice splattered organic effect. Would test on a piece of paper first to see if the effect is what you're going for.

I think a good base actually makes a mini really pop -- a lacklustre base brings the whole thing down, whereas a great base can make a good mini look absolutely stunning when you're not scrutinizing every detail.
The brush spattering technique described by Devonelle is a great idea -- maybe do it with a dark dark red (old blood), and just a little bright red (for fresher stuff). Add some glumpy glue or something to the base before you paint, and it'll simulate gore
