from the presentation of the game its pretty nice but i think the game would be good if the theme and the mechanics is interesting.. i look forward for this game..
Why is the board so thick? Looks like it's foam core, but is there a reason for this?
Looks like they have a second set of boards beneath the first to support the weight on the smaller table - I guess if they have 4 playing boards total and being connected for folding you can't interchange sections?
Also looks like the camera was using a wide angle lens which would distort the board size, making it look larger than the box and the lower left corner looks abnormally stretched.
On further inspection, it looks like all they did was mount the cardboard game components on foamboard. Here's a site with 3 pics (including a couple closeups) that I found linked in this game's forum: http://www.trictrac.fr/index.php3?id=jeux&rub=actualite&inf=... Click the first 3 links set off by the > bulletpoint for each of the 3 pics. Especially the 2nd pic shows a good closeup. It looks like they intentionally designed the board so that it would pop out at you like it was 3d when its really flat. Very very neat. In other words, that great looking board is totally flat!!
So it looks to me its a one-off only in the sense that they mounted each game cardboard part on foamboard, other than that I'm thinking that the retail game looks like this!!

If one looks at the other availible close in pics, it appears to be just mounted on foamboard. Also I think its just a standard camera lens, which could be some wide angle effects (like if its a canon rebel, then the standard kit lens is a bit wide anglish when zoomed out to maximum), but I think its mostly just perspective effects from where the guy with the camera is sitting.
If the fold lines are carefully examined, its folds in half down the middle | and then folds in 3rds in the other dimension ___. So its a 6 part folding board which as you imply, should fit in the box
Definitely mounted on foamcore. The copy on display in Nuremberg was a mock-up.
As a sidenote: too early to judge, because the "real thing" may change the overall impression, but my first thought was: hey, that really is nicely illustrated, the second: whoa ... hard to tell the chits from the map, looks quite confusing).
If this is the final board, definitely a different setup than the original Vinci. The entire continent has a huge pond in the middle of it in this version. Also, original board in upper right-hand corner was primarily mountains. Some interesting changes to the map here, but still think I'd prefer to play the original.
** On second look, this map seems to have taken the tension out of the middle area by replacing it with a pond and rainbow. Seems to me like lighter, fluffier DOW fare. ***
Are they mountain (terrain) tiles on top of some of the teritories? Are they an added mechanic to artificially create bottlenecks? If so, is it part of game setup?
Certainly doesn't look like any type of race token.
If they are terrain barriers, it would be an excellent way to give a set map layout like this more tactical re-playability.

The mountain tiles sit on top of moutain terrain. They are a physical reminder that you need one additional unit to conqure an region. If they didn't exist in the game you wouldn't even know it.
Besides, due to their size they often end up covering other territory markers that are pre-printed on the board.
That board is gorgeous. Quess I'm a sucker for bright candy colours and fantasy landscapes.
