It's odd that the English language versions would have sub-par artwork compared to the outstanding German covers. Oh well, the game plays just as well I suppose.
D'oh! I bought overtext even though I have nothing interesting to say.
Usually, I love Michael Menzel's artwork, and in the case of the German version artwork he did, I think it's very pretty, BUT, I'm one of the few that prefers the original (non-German version) artwork. Why? It's different. It makes me think Dominion is something different to the traditional (but highly thematic) Euros that Menzel usually illustrates, and that's good.
Again, I think Menzel's stuff is beautiful. Any game he illustrates the board for is immediately, if not on my buy list, then at least something I'll consider. But somehow, even though it's not as pretty, the original artwork here is just more appealing to me.
I have a question: When friends gather around the table and we ask what game we want to play today... do most of you say I do not want to play this game because the box is not great rendering?
Come on folks!!!! We buy and play this game because we like the game!
