If I may make a suggestion, post both of the pictures together as one? Would be nice to see them side by side to see all the subtle differences.

Simply one of the most outstanding "portal through time" pictures I have seen in quite a while. I have looked at both pics in the full size spectrum to see the changes in in the past three years.

Thank you for the wonderful artistic experience.

Love this picture! Only proves that time is so slippery, so difficult to grasp and keep a hold on. Before you know it, you're already some years further. And it also depicts that a true gamer starts out young ;-)

One recommendation though: next time, try to wait until the sun sets correctly so you have the exact same shadows... Would make a more convincing comparison picture...

Ha! We had the cheap rug under the chair to protect the floor from the rollers on the chair but realized that stuff would collect under the rug and the rolling action smashing the carpet on top of the debris caused more problems to the floor than not having the rug in the first place. And....my wife hated it.

I do like the impression of the sun going down, and the person is growing older in these hours for years ...

But WHY did you put the board two panels further to the window? ;)

And please continue this every three years, with the changing sun!

Would be great to have a nice gallery on www.boardgameseniors.com in 40 years with fifteen pictures.

Uncalled for, no matter which side of that whole debacle you're on (or indeed, whether you're on a side at all). Why drag something ugly into something beautiful? They're two fantastic photographs and an interesting contrast in time. Leave it at that.

Awsome man. Glad your staying close to your daughter. Some of my best memories of my Dad are playing games. I hope I can give that gift to my children as well.
I think the picture is very well executed btw. The different location of the sun etc accentuate that time has passed. Whats different between the two contribute to the overall theme. But we all look at things differently. As an art piece I like that the room has changed. An identical setting in both would indead seem contrived, since time does change things.
Makes me wish I had been taking pictures of the kids playing games now. I am usually so busy wrangling that I forget to capture the moments on film.

That was very well stated. I didn't consciously recognize the symbolism of the sunlight's position representing the passing of time with the child. Whether it was intentional or not, it really does enhance the composition now that you mention it.

There is another picture of your daughter you posted on your blog a while ago that confirms your artistic skills :

The first time I looked at this picture, I felt like you had managed to make time stand still a few moments to take this picture.

Yes, she is very photogenic, but it takes two to make such a nice portrait.

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments. I'm quite surprised and genuinely humbled by them. My daughter is a good sport. She's not "a gamer" but will occasionally but begrudgingly play a game or two (she really likes Lexio). But in general, she'd rather be with her friends doing stuff, Facebook, etc. She used to like to sit with me and work through rules of a new game but that's "not her thing" anymore. So, the comments about time passing and your kids growing up really do hit home.

You know, I've mentioned several times over the last year that we should set up the game again and take a memorial shot. She wanted to do it but it just never materialized. The weather has been fantastic the last few days and the sun just pours through that side door and it was just time I think. She periodically asks about how many thumbs her original picture has and I think she gets a confidence boost from it. She knows that this one has been well received and she's getting a huge kick out of it.

Again, thanks for all the great comments.
