UFO's? Maybe. Bigfoot? I'm a believer. And I can even buy into the Cubs winning the series this year. I'm just way to sane to believe that there's any chance of that photo being legit.
Hey guys, thanks for all of the comments. She would have preferred me to take the picture when she had make-up on, but enjoyed reading the comments too. She actually bought Squad Leader in 1980, but never played it until a couple weeks ago with me. We both got hooked with the infantry scenarios, and I did some research about ASL and the gamettes. It seemed like it would be better to transition to ASL before learning the AFV rules in Squad Leader (and then having to unlearn them), so we got the ASL Starter Kits and we're playing through those now.
Right now we're in the middle of ASLSK #1 scenario 2, The War of the Rats. I think I may prefer it to the Guards Counterattack, although the Russian units really suck.
Someday we'll make it to Beyond Valor, but I'm waiting for a good price on Beyond Valor (would prefer 1st or 2nd edition, she really likes the mounted mapboards) and the Rulebook (would prefer 2nd edition so I don't miss any rules when buying new modules).
Now I'm surprised no whiners have yet complained there's a woman on the picture... where are the inquisitors at? What happened to all the BS about "objectifying women" and all that?
I would be designing it right now if we could submit new badges. It would be the perfect compliment to: My Grandma is a gamer, and Grandma Babaitsev fan. (If you're not familiar with Grandma Babaitsev, check out this geeklist.)
Fantastic! Along with the pictures of Babies and young children playing, we now have the parents of grown up BGG'ers to boot! it is a telling picture to me to the testament of the power of Board games.
When my dad moved out temporarily 20 years ago I guilted him into playing Panzerblitz with me. He went back to mom, so that was it for gaming with the 'rents.
And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson Laying down a base of fire so low (Wo, wo, wo) God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson Heaven holds a place for those who play (The Squad Leader way...hey, hey, hey)
We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files We'd like to help you learn to close assault Look around you, all you see are extremely jealous eyes Every Grog wants a mom like this at home
And when you've lost, this scenario And I then turn my gloating eyes to you (Woo, woo, woo) What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson I'm grounded to my room the rest of the day? (Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)

Isn't that the way all moms are? My mom is the same way even though (like yours) she looks fine without any makeup.
PS. I'm playing with my wife and my mother every weekend and she (my mother) is better and better - for example - she is now almost ubeatable in Stone Age..... also amazing in Ticket to Ride Series, and now her new game to become a master is Hazienda
Anyway i cannot imagine my mother playing in such a war game.

What a Mom! She must be loving you all the way since the 1980...you didn't mention that if she bought that game for herself or for you. If it is the former...
Beyond Valor would require the full ASL rules to play...although I guess nothing would prevent you from doing so with the SK rules only...I believe. But I am not that far into the ASL world yet....
If this where ASL, I could picture two quotes coming from mom's mouth:
1. My sniper just landed on your 10-3. Boom, head shot.
or
2. I've got a hip squad with a .50 cal and 10-3 leader in the building next to you. Let's see, thats 15FP, doubled for point blank. -2 FFNAM/FFMO and -3 for leader. 30FP - 5. And that's why you don't move in stacks, son.
"My mom beat me at Squad Leader"
