Kudos to your mom for winning - and to you for bringing to life a phrase I had never imagined, let alone thought I would ever hear:

"My mom beat me at Squad Leader"

Moms always win!

No matter how hard you try to conceal your actions, they always know or find out where you are and what you are doing. Not fair!

Did she use the tactic "Now son, you better not fire that machine gun on my stack of soldiers, if you know what's good for you!!!"

But this is really cool!

Hey guys, thanks for all of the comments. She would have preferred me to take the picture when she had make-up on, but enjoyed reading the comments too. She actually bought Squad Leader in 1980, but never played it until a couple weeks ago with me. We both got hooked with the infantry scenarios, and I did some research about ASL and the gamettes. It seemed like it would be better to transition to ASL before learning the AFV rules in Squad Leader (and then having to unlearn them), so we got the ASL Starter Kits and we're playing through those now.

Right now we're in the middle of ASLSK #1 scenario 2, The War of the Rats. I think I may prefer it to the Guards Counterattack, although the Russian units really suck.

Someday we'll make it to Beyond Valor, but I'm waiting for a good price on Beyond Valor (would prefer 1st or 2nd edition, she really likes the mounted mapboards) and the Rulebook (would prefer 2nd edition so I don't miss any rules when buying new modules).

And here's to you, Mrs. Robinson
Laying down a base of fire so low (Wo, wo, wo)
God bless you please, Mrs. Robinson
Heaven holds a place for those who play
(The Squad Leader way...hey, hey, hey)

We'd like to know a little bit about you for our files
We'd like to help you learn to close assault
Look around you, all you see are extremely jealous eyes
Every Grog wants a mom like this at home

And when you've lost, this scenario
And I then turn my gloating eyes to you (Woo, woo, woo)
What's that you say, Mrs. Robinson
I'm grounded to my room the rest of the day?
(Hey, hey, hey...hey, hey, hey)

What a Mom! She must be loving you all the way since the 1980...you didn't mention that if she bought that game for herself or for you. If it is the former...

Beyond Valor would require the full ASL rules to play...although I guess nothing would prevent you from doing so with the SK rules only...I believe. But I am not that far into the ASL world yet....laugh

If this where ASL, I could picture two quotes coming from mom's mouth:

1. My sniper just landed on your 10-3. Boom, head shot.

or

2. I've got a hip squad with a .50 cal and 10-3 leader in the building next to you. Let's see, thats 15FP, doubled for point blank. -2 FFNAM/FFMO and -3 for leader. 30FP - 5. And that's why you don't move in stacks, son.

I noticed that the tissue box is on your side of the table - to both wipe away tears of joy in having your Mother play SL with you and to also wipe away tears of frustration as her Russians control the Tractor Works!
