Nice artwork, but imo the they sometimes don't really express the given sin. For example for gluttony a fat man would have worked better.

Sins should be tempting. These appear tempting. The gluttonay card should start as this and once you grab it, it then turns into a fat man.

Good idea! Anyway, a fat slob on a card would have an immense effect on the meta-game. People would use this card only to get rid of it and introduce some nice looking ladies there...

Envy was the only one where i wouldn't have been able to guess without all the others there.

I'm also gonna agree that you can't have someone who looks like they go to the gym everyday representing gluttony. It doesn't have to be a
"fat man" to make me happy...I'd rather it wasn't! But if its to be the female embodiment of that particular vice, then she should at least be "full figured". Note that this would not exclude the possibility of her still being attractive...

Gluttony is there to tempt you with her fine array of pies n pastries!

Hmmm, I disagree with most people's opinion on this one. I think the concept you're going for here is represented & presented very well. The idea being that every sin is very...."tempting" or at least should be presented as such. I think the theme here accomplishes this very well, & I for one can't wait to get a better look at this game!

The source images of the girls look like Met-Art (a soft-core porn site) images. I'm pretty sure I have the exact photo used for the Sloth girl here. I'll have to check when I get home.


EDIT: Ok, I think it's this same woman from Met-Art. This isn't the exact same photo, but I think it's from the same photo shoot. She's even wearing the same necklace. Here's one of her images (edited for appropiateness on BGG, of course):



Be careful if you're using Met-Art's images without permission. I don't give two craps about copyright law, but they're pretty aggressive about going after folks, so watch your back.

I get all of them except for Envy. Why does having a snake (which I assume is venomous) mean someone is Envious? Are they like bitter to someone else and it shows in the snake or what? I'm still having trouble figuring that one out with the picture...

I'm not sure but maybe it has to do with the concept of penis envy. I know its a stretch but I can't think of anything else that might represent.

BTW the images are all great IMO. I especially like the girl laying the egg.

I'm not sure whether MasterMind or America's Got Talent is the more appropriate, but your knowledge of soft-core porn deserves some form of recognition!

Green is the traditional colour of Envy. Snakes can be green. Venom is connected to the colour, as is anything toxic.
I'm not sure, but I'd look for these connotations here.

Also, not sure about the issues with similar pictures, will have to ask the artist about that. I think it may be a rather "strong inspiration", rather than outright copyright infrigment. But again - not sure, I'm somewhat disconnected from the process of creating art for our games.

Absolutely. Disappointing really is the right word. Why can't we get, say, some really inviting food on the gluttonry card? Or blood and violence on the wrath card? What's with all the cards being lust?

I agree. I’ve heard of ‘lust for power’ but ‘lust for lust’ sounds like a contradiction.

OMG I'm getting old. I was thinking the same thing.

My primary gaming group consists of my wife and another couple. Something tells me the half naked females in this game would deter my wife and my friend's wife from ever playing this game. Too bad, as the game itself sounds fun.

I am very disappointed that no female geeks have decided to boycott this game over the stereotypical portrayal of male characters as muscle-bound beefcake!

With all these 'modern men' being offended on your behalves re: scantily clad and curvy lasses, I feel its your duty to stand up to the pressure that games such as this place on male geeks who don't have six-packs or bulging biceps...

Wow. Your wife is of a unique breed. My girlfriend is stoked about this game. But to each there own I guess.

Don't get me wrong. My wife plays most of my games with me, and some of them have a few tasteful depictions of buxom women (e.g. Kingsburg). She just laughs at how every woman in every card/boardgame has to have big breasts. However, these pictures for 7 take it a bit too far. This game takes blatent sexual marketing to a new level. It's clearly aimed at teenage boys, and for that segment it squarely hits the mark. I just think the sultry lingerie models in sexy poses aren't needed in a card/boardgame, unless you're playing strip poker.

Bless you sir, but I think you'll find most teenaged boys have access to a wealth of free porn on the internet, and as such the mild titilation (at best) that these images provide will be well and truly overlooked by all but the most sheltered...

The thing that still amazes me is this:

If none of the guys on here (the majority of which probably have bellies like kegs rather than six-packs) are offended by the stereotypical muscle bound male characters, why do they think that the lasses will be by the curvacious female characters?

I guess this is a subject of fundamental beliefs of which I don’t think there are any right answers. And perhaps is this the wrong forum for this discussion but I totally agree with you.

It is not as much the picture itself but the subtle meaning behind it that troubles (some) people. This idea of weak, sexy and willing girls has been sold, or used to sell other products, and signals something totally different than a male ad for boxers.

Glad to see someone else that enjoys gaming with their spouse btw.

My issue has nothing to do with the depiction of sexy, scantily clad, curvaceous women, I have no problem with that if it is appropriate, fits the theme, etc. The issue I have is with identifying only women/the female with sin, which strikes me as a tad misogynistic. All of the cards representing the 7 sins depict women. The implication here is that women are the source of moral failure. Keeping some of those pictures for appropriate sins (e.g. vanity, if that is one) would be fine if interspersed with male (beefcake or otherwise) representations of the 7 sins.

I suppose you certainly could glean that from the cards if you take a very "moralistic" & analytical approach to it; & if you wish to take such a critical look at all mediums of entertainment, that is certainly your prerogative.

I, however, see no need to judge a board game that caters to the typical stereotype of its target market (undoubtedly men in their mid-40s & not teenagers I'm afraid) this deeply because, after all, its just a board game. I'm sure if you were to turn on a television & watch more than 10 minutes of any major broadcast network you would very likely be disgusted.

As for the Small World comment, I was simply referring to the blatant misogynistic representation of women via The Amazons. Lord knows that started quite a flame war on these very message boards.
