Jerry made it. He could tell you better than I. I know it was carved from foam core and painted. The deck space texts are cut out from a Summoner Wars mat. The Summoner Wars plaque is carved from plastic. (Jerry has a friend that does that kind of thing)

My. Gawd. That's. Gorgeous.

And those walls totally help add to the overall look of the board.

Briefly:

I got the measurements from Colby. I cut the board out of pink foam insulation after measuring carefully. I used an exacto with a fresh blade. I then used a marker and ruler to draw the grid spaces and draw/discard/magic pile spaces onto the pink foam..

Using just the tip of the exacto, I sliced out all the areas in between the spaces using a "V" patern and removed the tiny strips that I had cut out. Then I used a rough textured rock and pressed it into the foam only on the rectangle spaces to leave a texture imprint in the foam. I also used my knife to cut cracks into the spaces to resemble cracked flagstone tiles.

I sprayed the whole thing with Krylon H20 black and let dry. I then started dry brushing with dark grey, then progressively lighter grey, but now only on the card spaces. Then I mixed a wash of brown/black craft paint mixed with Future wax and water. I washed the whole thing and ragged off the spaces then washed again and this time blotted the middle of each space with a paper towel.

The plaques were done by by a friend who used an engraving machine and white plasticard. I sprayed them with black spaypaint and then dry brushed them with tin bitz(a GW paint), and then aged steel, then I painted the red in the lettering, then washed the whole thing with the magic wash I had created. I used a low temp hotglue gun to attach it to the board. The labels on the draw/magic/discard piles are just cut out of a spare map and glued on.

So there you have it.

Now you just need minis with a large base that holds the card data and it would be complete!

A few questions before I try my own hand at this:

1) What size (thickness) of foam board did you use?

2) Could you describe how to make the wash solution?

3) Did you use the exacto knife to cut the board down to size, or just for the detail lines?

Thanks!

The only thickness that they carried. I believe it is 3/4"

Sure. Take about a 1/2 cup of water mix it with 1/2 cup Future floor wax. Add about a tablespoon of black craft paint and a tablespoon of brown. Stir it up and use it for whatever you want to deepen and darken your creations. It goes into the cracks, crevasses and low spots.

Yes I used the x-acto for the whole thing.

Suggestion: For future editions, could you have the playmat use a color scheme like this and maybe only separate the spaces with white or black lines instead of the current scheme?
This looks way better than all the white fields in my opinion.

This is amazing. I loved how you designed the board.. the stone tiles, cracked markings, the summoner war logo attached to an old bronze metal. Though, I like the logo to have a clean or shiny metal effect not the dusty/old effect to give contrast color with the mat. This way it gives an eye catching to the people what's the name of the game. Overall, its great. This will be the SW SUPER premium board.. and will be available in the future.
