Homemade Hex board. I used wooden discs bought at a hobby shop and glued them to a board.

I really like how that looks! I'll have to plan a trip to the hobby store sometime soon

I agree that's pretty, and I definitely approve that you chose 14x14 for your grid size. Is there any direct indication on the board itself regarding which borders are black and which are white? From looking at the position, it would seem the black borders are clockwise from each obtuse corner. I hope you will switch that around, if it's not too late. A sort of tradition has started on many Hex servers that the black border rows are counterclockwise from the obtuse corners. In the image, that should be the bottom left and top right edges. Also, black places the first stone and the swap rule is in place. Based on the black stone near the bottom of the image, it seems you are already in agreement with those last two provisions. It doesn't really matter in terms of game play, but I recommend you paint or mark the bottom left and top right edges of the board black. Thanks for posting!

Thanks! I thought about painting the edges white and black, but never got around to it. The game depicted is one I played against myself in about five minutes time, just for the photo.

Very nice work. I suppose players can just agree beforehand which borders they are playing to. Then there would be no need to paint the edges and you can keep that nice wood look.

Yes, marking the edges hardly seems necessary. Besides, I also have stones in other colors such as red, blue, and green. Thanks!
