A year ago, on July 4th, 2009, the first Alex, Seth and Grün strip appeared. At that moment it was just a one-off photo, but it has generated so much positive feedback, that I decided to turn it into a comics series.

So, on this fabulous occasion we would like to thank everyone for the continuous support and for making one of the photos the number one pic in the BGG image gallery. Without your enthusiasm I'd never make it this far.

But we will not limit ourselves to just words. To celebrate the Alex, Seth and Grün first anniversary, we will be really cool and propose the following.

Post in this thread a small happy birthday speech together with the name of a board game which you'd like to get. After this image is off the main page (which is usually about a week after it's posted), I will make a random drawing from among all the entries and send the requested board game to the winner, regardless of his geographical location (if, of course, I manage to find the game - please don't ask for out-of-print games, and spare me from monsters like War of the Ring Collector's Edition, alright?)

In order for the random drawing to be simpler for me, I will select from all people who have thumbed this post. This might seem to be a cheap'n'dirty way to get thumbs, but this is not the reason (I already have enough thumbs, thank you!). By this I want to avoid checking the entire thread for double-posts, and it will be easier for me to number the entries before randomly drawing through http://www.random.org/sequences/. If the individual selected doesn't have a game wish listed in this thread, I will randomly pick another one, and so on, until a winner is picked. A completely random draw, no strings attached.

Your comics are always great, and being that I'm still relatively new to the hobby, they've been a great help in introducing me to new games. For example, it was your comic that first introduced me to Chaos in the Old World, a game that I now thoroughly enjoy playing. Also, it was one of your comics that was the first step in a series of events that led to me being inspired to design one of the games I'm working on now.

Also, who doesn't love Ugly Dolls? goo

As for a game, War of the Ring (regular edition) has been the latest thing to catch my attention (I'm still a bit behind the times... wow

), but I haven't been able to find it in-stock at a reasonable price in the places I've looked. So unless you know a place, a copy of Pandemic would be just lovely, thank you!

EDIT: So ya, I just looked just a little bit deeper than I had before (

) and realized WotR is OOP. No way I'd make you scour the land for an OOP game when you're being so generous to begin with, so if I happen to be chosen, Pandemic is my choice.

EDIT2: Just won an auction for WotR on ebay, so definitely Pandemic.

Then, on the glorious occasion of July 4th (also, of lesser importance, a birthday for a different distant land), the world (a.k.a. BGG subscribers) learned of the existence of these three modern day (in one case) evil geniuses! And so, forever more, the Fourth day of the month of July will be remembered for - the birth of Alex, Seth and Grun!

Happy Birthday!

I would be thrilled to receive a copy of Victory in the Pacific, as I just bought the British Fleet expansion and don't own a copy of the game. Please note there are two copies for sale on BGG for less than $25, and I would be extremely happy with one of them. I'm hoping to play the game, not collect it.

Only a year ago BGG.com was a barren place. Sure there were game discussions, arguments about the merits of the top ranked game and up-loaded pics of meeples but the place had no heart. Sure pictures of salaciously clad women frequented the front page but the Estonians had yet to enter the scene so it was a pretty drab place to spend a few hours every day.

All that changed on July 4th, 2009!

From the icy wastes of Russia (Yes, I know it is summer in July in Russia and I have never been there but, even with global warming, how warm does it ever really get?) came a single panel joke. On this day of American independence a Russian man took this American artform already made perfect by such masters as Gary Larson, Dan Piraro, and the artform's grandmaster Tom Wilson Jr. and improved it.

So, sure, let's blow up some Chinese made fireworks, drink some Mexican beer, and grill some German bratwurst today in celebration of American independence. Happy Birthday USA.

Ah... but let us also raise a glass of vodka (or cognac) in recognition of the great comedic artist - Gruen! May we continue to be blessed by many more years of your humorous escapades! Nostrovia!!

And please don't destroy us. angry
