Why did the King resign? The Knight can take the Queen. Just wondering.

By the way, AWESOME Picture!

Elementary, my dear Watson. There is a rook to the left of the knight (and out of view in this picture) that pins the equestrian piece against its monarch.
11. Thou shalt not play worker placement games.

A step to the left was out of the question as well? Oh yes -- the other hidden rook.

             Sag.

Or a hidden bishop on the light squared diagonal.

...that this is the representative image for chess. I'd much prefer a classic wood staunton set than this ugly one. Good photo though.

You could always propose an alternative. You never know, it might even be accepted. :)

I did... three times. My guess is that non-chess players do a lot of moderating and they seem to like the current one as is.

I tried 3 times as well to push this one out. It is an excellent picture of a lousy chess set, unfortunately.

Representative? No one with any skill plays chess regularly with a glass chess set, a chintzy glass chess set at that.

It`s interesting, though, that under the more recommended images there is not a single one showing plain Staunton chessmen on a "normal" board. They are all very "special", probably because people see no use in a good, but "representative" shot.

I only have very unique chessmen, but if one of you owns the Staunton ones, with a nice wooden board, just make a perfect shot showing the starting position in a good light and submit it from the beginning as "representative shot". I`d recommend it first!
