My second game, more than six months since the first, with a large number of new games in between.
Was at least close to the leader if not in front for the first five rounds. Got passed by a large margin in the final scoring. Seemingly because I didn't have the chance to take the cards/placements I wanted due to Master Builder drawing.

5 player, using the cards, with one person playing their first game and another on their second.
I planned poorly and ended up seriously short of food in each of the last two harvests. Needed a means to kill/cook/eat animals. Probably because I was sidetracked with the occupations/minor improvements.
Another game like that and I'll drop my opinion of the card driven version to a 6.

I chose poor tiles in the first couple of rounds especially and ended up with a lot of end pieces without starts.
Lost a number of points at the end for not having enough fishermen (which is normal for me) but was obviously last before that was dealt with.

Thought I might have won when I added up my final victory points, came second by 4 points. Would have won if I had not purchased the second last building I did as I would've been able to buy one of the big buildings and received a bonus from it, but hindsight's a wonderful thing.

I've improved since my first game but I still ended up in last. I was however only a little more than 100 points behind the winner this time instead of 100 behind fourth place.

I prefer the simple game, possibly because it has less choices, I hope because everyone is on more level footing.

Teaching game so slower than might have otherwise been. Both new people did well enough to noticeably beat me.
