Reply: Board Games with Scott:: News:: Re: Librarians burned for playing games

by Zigg

As a federal auditor, I think the real waste of money was the State doing an audit which likely cost at least $50 thousand on a library’s purchase of about $500. Although, I do believe the audit report stated the facts fairly, I’m not sure the report hit on the real problem. It seems to me where the library really went wrong was not having a documented plan on how the equipment will be used. Ideally the library should have developed a proposal for a Trial Program, which would be approved by management and should include:

• How the Trial Program helps the library meet its Mission,
• Goals of the Trial Program,
• The steps that will be taken to enact the Trial Program and the total cost, For example,

o Purchase Equipment,
o Train librarians on use of equipment,
o Communicate to patrons when events will occur,
o Hold multiple events,
o Get feedback from patrons on how the events went,
o Evaluation of the Trail Program.

• Proposed schedule for the Trial Program, and
• How the Trial Program will be evaluated in relation to its goals (This is really an important part because it can be used to justify the program continuing operation or expansion. Could be done by providing patrons a survey, or counting the number of people that attend.)

The audit report basically told me that the library did not have its act together. If the library had a plan and followed it, the auditors would likely had very little to say.

A generic plan could be developed and provided to libraries to help them implement a Trial Program, so the libraries only have to fill in their specific information.
I do one a month, and have kept with that for a while now.

I had a book due Oct. 1st, which I just finished today. I've got a trip on Wed. for a week, so after that, I plan to record something.

I've got a few ideas, and also a number of the Essen preorders are stumbling in, so I'll have to see what is tickling my fancy...

Hello? Anybody out there? Is everybody hiding, or have I've been left behind at the last Jump?

I know Scott isn't doing videos on a regular basis anymore, though I'm surprised that nobody is talking about the next game to be reviewed? (As Tulipmania and Words on the Street are out by now).

What game will it be? Extreme Full Contact Yahtzee? Crocodile Pool Party 2? Monopoly the CCG?

Greetings from Switzerland,

3b
