What about [thing=7514][/thing], that has a non-co-op variant, but it's mainly co-op.

I'm pretty sure [thing=8279]Death Angel[/thing] is also a co-op survival type game, but I haven't played it myself. Your basically trying to survive the night.

I'm waiting for the new updated version to come out before printing it up, and I've offered to do the art for the new board depending on when it all comes together.
Seems like this could be a solo or co-op game in all honesty.

are there any free PnP co-op games out there?

Brilliant idea BTW. As soon as I read your first post up there I was thinking about how different things would 'cost' water to accomplish and what-not. Yeah this could work.

(One side note: the spelling is Phoenix.)

Perhaps rebuilding the plane happens in large stages and you need to satisfy specific requirements to achieve each stage.

Let me brainstorm this for a minute to see if it inspires anyone else to pick up and run with it.

Use a Water track to keep track of Water which is the main limiting factor.

All activity requires use of water.

Water can be regained in small amounts from the still. Building the still has a water cost.

A second limiting factor could be the number of people. You need people to do the work.

Event cards could be used to provide the unexpected, such as visiting tribesmen, insanity, sandstorms(which waste time and water), accidents, set backs, injuries,

Perhaps a second track indicating progress of the Pheonix, it would be cool to see little icons on this track showing it coming together.

Another thought on water, perhaps each use of water lets you "use a person".

In the film there were people with different skills, there was the pilot, the navigator, the doctor, the soldier(s) perhaps these individuals could be brought out in the game, So when an accident happens, you better hope it doen't happen to the pilot because his second ( the navigator ) isnt so good at flying).

I just "know" this can work, if [thing=34010][/thing] and [thing=12005][/thing] can become games, anything can.

You have water as the limiting time factor. The personalities of the characters count as difficulties to be overcome. You need them to complete the escape, but some want to walk out of the desert, others might go mad, and of course the trouble of actually building the plane. The final flight could be the endgame.

Just an idea, anyone fancy designing that?

Its just Black and white line art, but anybody can use it for their projects, color them how you want..etc.

I only ask that should you use the art in a published game in any form, I get some credit as well as thumb the pic if you download it.

Tiles are about 2" squared but you can scale up a little, and down as needed.

The corridors may not all line up perfectly, this was just a quick sketch.

I've started to make [thing=24154][/thing] with my [thing=20801][/thing] tiles. And they are all slightly different sizes. Sigh. Oh well. I'm coloring in the back & sides with sharpie. At first they were sticky, but by morning they'd dried. I can't tell if the sharpie on my fingers is from last night or this morning. I'm going to add a coating over it just in case. Yes, I was too cheap to buy the spray paint that goes on plastic.

One thing that I can't find, Mr. Wham says he designed this specifically for a backgammon board by Dave Trampier that was included in the June 1978 issue of Dragon magazine. I can't find a scan of that anywhere. All I can find are multiple references that basically say "Oh, it is beautiful. You should see it!". Even the picture that he posted he's using a normal backgammon board. Has anyone ever seen it?

edited for spelling.

yeah, I DID see it. I really want to give it a go and try a new visual style out that seems perfect, but I CAN'T. Too many other commitments.

I just turned down an opportunity to work on another published game as well. So.. I know its a little past the 4th of July, but I finally uploaded some actual files for [thing=18023]Postcard from the Revolution[/thing].

File 1: 2 page "postcard" size set. 2 copies of each map on 1 page, rules/postage info on the 2nd page to be printed front and back.

File 2: Delux Set. Larger 1" per hex scale map with graphical units, unit "back sides" for mounting on block to play with fog of war, plus some extra counters and such as was requested by hardcore wargamers.

File 3: Delux Set Game box. Designed to contain the Delux Set.

These are awaiting Admin approval, hopefully these files will help some folks with the PNP Secret Santa lists!

yes.. Delux is misspelled...its what I do.

	Concerning Kingdoms:
It would be good if you could say somewhere how many cards, minions, ... per player are needed.

Boards is obvious, minions max 50 per player so I guess one minion counter page is enough for 3 players. But the cards, do I only print them once, or should they be printed more ?

What is the min and max amount of players ?

The above is also handy for Monster hunt :)

EDIT: I'm also missing the building cards in Kingsdoms.
EDIT2: Also the gold cards (like the resource cards) are missing. The picture is in the manual, but not in the card sheet

by auxlen

Nothing wrong with black and white games. One of the concerns when making PNP games is will anyone be bothered to print and play this. BY designing a game in black and white you probably increase the chance of them doing that (hopefully).
I try and opt for a black and white and grey or at least to give the graphics something more interesting than text only.

I feel personally that PNP games are like food...the first bite is with the eye. So I think 'would I print this?'

There's no reason for black and white to mean dull, though. Shameless plug http://www.auxlengames.co.uk/monster%20hunt.html. These cards are black and white but hopefully they are interesting enough to keep the eye interested.

Having said that, just because a card is in colour doesn’t stop you from printing it out in black and white. I always print my colour cards in B&W when designing and sometimes they look just as good.
About 5 minutes too late as I cross posted on the game designer forum and did a brain dump of my initial rule set... [thread=462306][/thread].

I think that makes a lot of sense, tho. I guess my biggie is that I'm looking for some help, perhaps on some of the scenario design for what I'm working on. Almost like what I have now is a game engine and I need to do the assembly work. I think that my next steps (as per your suggestions) would be to formally write up the ruleset I dumped in that thread, take all of the components that I designed on cardboard and digitize them (with less artwork, I imagine) and make them available on my personal site. At that point, I would start posting to the designers forum for people to head out and grab the external version of my stuff and post any suggestions, criticisms, scenerio designs from there. Sound about right?

My game was designed to be B/W. I chose the theme (Vaudeville) to suit it, and that drove the mechanics in really interesting ways... The latest iteration has color, but when I (finally!) release the PDF, I'll have a B/W version as well... Personally, I like black & white, and the next game idea I've got, about the DIY punk rock scene, will be centered around black and white flyer art.

by benfriedberg1981

Hey all, I'm a complete neophyte to the PnP arena and have been working on my first project. Well, first that I intend to complete... :-) Anyways, I was wondering if there is a good mechanism here for posting a partially complete game with the intention of soliciting help / suggestions from the community as far as how to implement certain features or whether or not what I'm doing actually sounds 'fun'.

Is it typical for people to have the whole shebang put together in some form before they post a new page?

Also, what's the general take on fair use? My story is that I have a friend who is close to the pushbuttonlabs people (pushbuttonlabs.com). Because of THAT, I had kept an eye out for news on their stuff and saw that one of their founders (Jeff Tunnell) had reclaimed the license for one of the very best puzzle games ever: The Incredible Machine (	http://pushbuttonlabs.com/2009/10/welcome-home-the-incredibl...). Anyways, I was interested in putting together a T.I.M. boardgame. I've gotten pretty far with rules / components already, but I was interested in posting my work so far so that I could get some feedback and start collecting suggestions for some of the more creative design bits. Is there much precedent for people doing that sort of thing?

Anyone know of prior art on this one? So far, I've looked at [thing=24417][/thing] and [thing=29456][/thing] but I haven't seen something like what I'm looking at doing. My plan is something of a blend between galaxy trucker's assembly mechanism, ticket to ride's card mechanism (with Puerto Rico's point incentive on unused cards) and Robo Rally's programmed execution.

Thanks ahead of time!
-Ben

Do Dominiation counters only count as units in Combat?

Dominiation counters are not units, They merely give you a bonus in combat. Having Resource dominance on a planet makes recruiting easier on that planet. Maybe I just missed or misread these things:
The rules are a bit hard in areas but nothing that was insurmountable when I actually sat down and concentrated. Here are my educated guesses for your questions:

1. Is combat simultaneous, or does the Attack inflict casualties first?
We played that it was simultaneous, because the casualty points are determined for both sides, before they are applied to the units.

2. How can a planet have Domination counters from both players? In combat, Domination counters count as units. In Control, you can only attempt control if you have uncontested control of the planet, meaning that your opponent has no units there. Do Dominiation counters only count as units in Combat?
Domination counters just give a +1 bonus (e.g. The local Industry is supportive of you.) they do not count as units.

3. Can you Recruit anywhere? Do you need to have some sort of a presence on a planet to recruit there?
We played that you can only recruit from a planet where you have a Domination counter. This made for some very interesting situations but it was still lots of fun!

Playing the game, seems to let your mind make sense of some of the rules, although some things take a bit of working out.
I got stuck on this sentence:
Cards remain secret to the player holding them until played.
I now believe it just means that the cards are hidden from your opponent.
I managed to convince a friend to give this a go. It plays well, although it did take a while to get used to the rules and the first game took us a while to complete. I found that although we came close to winning by victory condition, both games went the full number of turns and points determined the winner. I am wondering if only really bad luck or a silly mistake (e.g. not watching the board properly) is needed to win by Dominance or Region control.

One minor question about the setup - do players have to alternate selecting planets from the same region or can Blue choose a Core Systems planet and then Red choose a The Strand planet.

I must commend you on the design of the Battle section. There is plenty of opportunity to have unbalanced battles but it does not create a runaway leader situation. The player with the most powerful units doesn't automatically destroy everything in his path, becoming unbeatable. However it doesn't give that player a feeling of being handicapped either.

It has a definite Ameritrash feel and could use some neat plastic components to really jazz it up! :)

A minor suggestion would be to add mechanics that would give advantages for having specific Dominence on a planet.
"Off the top of my head" examples: Having a Population Dominence on a planet, makes gaining Industry or Resource Dominance easier on that planet. Having Resource dominance on a planet makes recruiting easier on that planet. Having an Industry Dominance on a planet allows you to draw an extra card if you win a battle on that planet.

Something like this may add an extra level of strategy to the game.

Really good game, I enjoyed it but needs good components to entice people in!

My latest game is ready for download if you want to grab it and give it a try.

This is still in the early stages and I'll appreciate any feedback you guys can give, either here, geekmail or email. Plase consider this a playtest version, so you might want to print in "draft" mode.

http://www.bookranger.co.uk/Conquer/ConquerTheGalaxy.htm

My B/W [thing=40948][/thing] has just been accepted to that file page.

I've made my own critters and your kids and you can colour the microbes and the little circles in the corner of each card. Even if your kids get creative on the colours, you'll still be able to play by matching up the shapes.

So I ended up finding the post I was looking for. The author is Eric Pietrocupo (larienna) and his site is Duvack's Tower. He has a pretty good guide on PnP game creation.

A while back I remember seeing a thread in the DIY forum by a guy who had been working on a site, or portion of a site, devoted to tutorials on building PnP games. His tutorials involved a lot of photographs and were pretty in depth.

Does anyone remember who this person is or where this thread went?
