I hadn't noticed -- it hasn't hit the table yet -- but now I'll check before it does! Thanks for the heads-up!

Haven't heard of that variation, but I haven't been playing this game very long. Thanks for mentioning it.

Thread: Nottingham:: Variants:: A variant by mistake

I don't know how we got this rule wrong, but we played that when someone traded in a set and moved the Sheriff, you took a card from the deck and without looking at it, put it directly into your victory pile instead of into your hand. This made it very valuable to have the same number or less cards than the number on the sheriff space. It made players trade in their sets faster. It made it a bigger gamble to horde cards in order to get the lucrative assignment cards. It made ambush cards more desirable. You didn't want an opponent to make a trade and to further benefit his score from having less cards than the next sheriff space.

All in all, our mistake made the game much more interactive.

I may have read about this variant somewhere before I played my first game. Did anyone else play this way?

I did not care enough about the game to notice. :)

Finally got around to opening a copy I got via Tanga Trash a while back, and discovered 1 missing card and 1 card too many:

Missing: One of the 15/10 AA/BB/CC assignment cards (you need 2).
Extra: An "8" VP-value Candlestick/Steal card (got 13 total instead of 12).

The game is still absolutely playable although the lack of the paired assignment card is going to require me to make my own copy.

Just curious if this happened to anyone else.
