by Alkan

High Noon 2 is actually the expansion called A Fistful of Cards. It is dubbed High Noon 2 because it works with more or less the same mechanics (with different cards and effects, of course).
The 2 extra High Noon cards are exactly the ones you may found on daVinci website.
The 3 characters, however, are very hard to get by other means (except E-Bay or similar), since:
- Uncle Will was given free at main European fairs like Essen, Nuremberg and Lucca, up to three year ago.
- Claus "The Saint" was a funny, promotional character for daVinci newsletter. It was published only in PDF before.
- Jonny Kish had a distribution similar to Uncle Will; additionally, it was included in the special Essen Fair issue of the German magazine Spielbox.

The packaging is identical to the first bullet release in that it comes in the bullet tin. The paper sleeve identifies it as the Bullet II edition.

I just read that inside Bang the bullet (deluxe edition of bang) is also something called high noon 2?! How many and what cards are inside that?
I allready own all the other things in the bang the bulle so would not want to waste 35dollars if its for less than 15 superp useful new cards.

In bang the bullet there are high noon, high noon 2 and 2 extra high noon cards? (Are those the cards you get to print for free from the official sites?)
Also you get 3 new charracters and and a sherif badge? What charracters are those? Can you get them in any other bang add-on?

Just discovered this change ourselves tonight. I'm not sure if it's intentional but I do think it's a "mistake". We'll probably house-rule the card and play it the old way. I wish they hadn't made this change; it has a bigger effect on the game than may at first appear.

by earlio

I just got the newer edition of the bullet (the one with the 4th edition cards) and my friends and I were playing last night and noticed that the Rag Time card has been changed from "discard this card with another card to draw a card from any other player" (in the older editions) to "discard this card with another card to shoot any other player." Making it the same card as the Springfield.

Do you guys think this is a mistake or intentional balancing by the creators? If it was intentional, that means the only "draw a card from any other player" card is the Conestoga (which is a green bordered card, not like Rag Time or Springfield which is brown).

In particular, the "BANG! - Dodge City" cards are the newest possible edition too.
On the wrapper, in fact, it is possible to 'preview' the "Conestoga" card, with the new 'draw a card' symbol.

It now contains the 4th edition cards of Bang as well as the 3rd edition of Dodge city. Their are none of the extras of the 4th edition base game such as tokens or mats. everything is in English as well as Italian. Cards have symbols as opposed to text. They are in stock at my local game shops so they are probably in yours as well. Hope that helps.

Session: Bang!:: 4 players, over in three rounds

by personwholives

So, two things of note, before the game begins: We play this as a filler/warm up while we wait for other people, and we play cutthroat, so deaths in the first round are ok.

So, to start, the players (in order):
Steven, me, Eric, and Bobby.

Dealing out the roles, I see that I have the renegade, and Steven reveals the sheriff. That means the others are outlaws. The characters come out, and I have Willy the Kid, Steven has Kit Carlson. That's all I pay attention to (or matters for this story).

Steven starts us off, firing one shot at Me, and laying down the dynamite and a barrel.

Now, I draw my two cards, and look at my hand: Gatling, Bang x 3, Beer, and Cat Balou. This will be fun. Gatling first, and everyone (including our dear sheriff and his ineffective barrel) takes a hit (for the record this puts Steven at 4, everyone else at 3). I'll have some beer, then take three quick shots at Eric. He's dead. I'll draw my three, then check my cards again: Cat Balou, Draw 2, Beer, General Store.

I start with the general store: Bang, Duel, Barrel. I'll take the Bang, Bobby grabs the Barrel, and Steven the Duel. I'll play the draw 2... and 2 more bangs. Bobby only has three life, so I take the three quick shots. Another one bites the dust. Three more cards. Now I have: Cat Balou, Beer x 2, and Missed x 2. Well, it had to end somewhere. Use the Cat Balou to take out the sheriff's barrel, and end my turn.

Steven doesn't go boom, so he passes me the dynamite. He takes his three, puts one back, and then takes a shot, which misses. My turn.

I check, but no boom, so I pass off the dynamite. I draw two bangs, both of which go Steven's way. One miss, one hit, and he's down to three life, and I'm done.

Steven draws... it's the two of spades. Boom. And with no booze, that is the end, right as round three begins. Renegade wins! Go me!

What he didn't mention is why.

The game isn't simply a cowboys game, it's a spaghetti western spoof designed by an Italian game designer. The Italian text really suits it.

Review: Bang!:: Reviews:: Werewolf with Invisible Horses

by VixenTorGames

Monday I reviewed Attack!, and complained for the whole thing about games with titles that end in unnecessary punctuation. Tonight I'm reviewing Bang!, and since I already spent too much time dwelling on my irritation with exclamation marks, I'm going to gloss right over it.

Instead I'm going to express my disapproval of games whose rules don't make any sense at all.

Bang! is a card game where everyone is in an Old West town, and outlaws ride in, and there's a shootout. The sheriff has to kill the outlaws, the outlaws have to kill the sheriff, the deputies help the sheriff, and to round it out, there's a renegade who wants to be the new sheriff, so he wants to kill everyone else, period.

And then Indians ride through the town, and everyone stops shooting at each other for a second to shoot Indians. I guess it's like a carnival game - you shoot the targets, and if the pink bunny pops up, you take a shot at him real quick so you can win the giant foam snake.

That's only one silly rule. We'll get to more.

Every player in Bang! gets a role card to start off. Only one of you can be the sheriff, but there will always be some outlaws, and you'll have that sneaky renegade, and if you have enough players, you'll even have a deputy or two. Only the sheriff reveals his card, though - everyone else has to be sneaky and try not to let the others guess who they are, to keep from becoming a target. It's like Werewolf, only everyone is a wolf.

It's even more like Werewolf because the idiot sheriff can kill his deputies, because he doesn't know who they are. I completely understand why the game needs to keep identities secret, but seriously? Is the sheriff blind? Retarded? Did he not recruit this hired help? And how about the deputy? After one bullet bounces off your face, don't you kind of want to go, 'Hey, hotshot! You're with me, remember?!'

OK, so the identity thing is a little goofy, but the idea is great - you have to trick people into shooting the wrong people so that you can win. It's a great bluffing feature, and the card play makes it even better. To shoot someone, you need Bang! cards, but they can totally dive under the porch and avoid harm if they can play a Missed! card (don't ask me why all these cards have excess punctuation. For that matter, don't ask me why all the titles are actually in Spanish, and you don't see 'Missed!' unless you read the fine print).

To complicate matters, you can only shoot people you can see - and to start off, you can only see people to your right and left. So in a big game, you can't even shoot the people across the table (apparently you start the game with a slingshot and a couple of smooth rocks). And if the guy right next to you jumps on a horse, he is suddenly completely invisible, though he can still see you. Because that's what gunfighters in the Old West did - they jumped on horses so they could disappear.

You'll need weapons if you want to shoot farther than next door. Different weapons offer different ranges - except the Volcanic revolver, which still only shoots next to you, but it lets you shoot a whole lot of times in one turn, instead of just once during your turn, like if you have normal guns. This only makes sense - the Volcanic was the only weapon in all of the Wild, Wild West that could fire twice in a row. Every other weapon required you to let everyone else shoot at you before you could shoot again. As I recall from Totally Fictional History 101, there was a kind of Miss Manners thing where it was just plain rude to fire without giving everyone else in the fight a chance to shoot you back, but the Volcanic got you a pass.

There are lots more cards that do lots more stuff, like beer that makes you healthy (I wish they bottled that locally), barrels you can hide behind (unless Indians come running through the middle of your gunfight), and a jail where you can just lock people up in the middle of a shootout. It's handy, too, because you can toss another player in jail, and then everyone can ride past and shoot at him, and he can't even hide under the bed. And he certainly can't shoot back.

To add to the mayhem, everyone gets to play special characters, and each character gives you a cool ability. Like Calamity Janet, who gets to use Missed! cards like Bang! cards, or Bart Cassidy, who draws a card every time he takes a bullet. Some of these abilities are a lot more powerful than others - Slab the Killer is approximately 37.8% more deadly than everyone else, but the unfortunately named Jourdonnais is only slightly better at avoiding damage than he is at convincing people his name has nothing to do with sandwich spread.

So I've got a lot of problems with some of the absolutely silly rules in Bang!, but the fact is, it's a really fun game. It doesn't even try to be balanced - the outlaws are incredibly likely to win, and the sheriff is almost guaranteed to get his ass shot off - but that's not the point. The point is fooling your friends into shooting someone else, and the guy who does that the best is very likely to at least hold out for a while. It's a total hoot to try and guess which players are your enemies, and which are your allies, even if it's completely nonsensical that the outlaws wouldn't recognize each other from campire night back at the hideout.

There are some problems with the game play, though. For starters, you could get eliminated before you ever have a chance to play a card (not likely, but possible) and then the game could go another 30 minutes while you catch up on your stories. Some abilities are far more powerful than others, and sometimes it seems like your opponents are drawing magic hands while you keep trying to pull the one card you need to break out of prison.

But problems and all, Bang! is a lot of fun. There's a lot of bluffing, a little bit of clever card play, and some thoroughly nonsensical gunfighting. And as I like to say, real men play games where people die - and this is one of those games. It's a lot of fun, even if you can stop a fight so that everyone can make a quick run to the general store.

Summary

Pros:
Great bluffing combined with smart card play
Ludicrously easy to learn
One of the few games that actually plays really well with a lot of people

Cons:
Doesn't even try to be balanced
Early elimination totally sucks
So much luck that a whole team of chess players threw themselves off a cliff after just one game
Routinely nonsensical silliness abounds

Actually, the original prototype was for 9 players as well. However, there were few minor issues (longer game length, more Role cards needed, etc.) and eventually daVinci decided to limit the game to 7 players.
However, if you want, a 9 players version is perfectly playable: just throw in, as you did, the 4th Outlaw.
You can also play with the following roles: 1 Sheriff, 3 Deputies, 4 Outlaws, 1 Renegade (that's how the original game worked).
Have fun!

We had a ninth person the other night. We tossed in an additional outlaw (for a total of 4). It seemed to work just fine. With horses and special abilities even, range was never an issue and it played down to a stunning finish with a deputy blowing up and the last lone outlaw putting the Sheriff down.

I suppose the slight downside might be that there's one more player to take up blue and green cards but we really didn't notice any adverse effects. So, if you have 9, go for a game of Bang!

Write me in as another who doesn't have an issue with this one. This past week we played a 6 player game and four 7 player games. The Sheriff won the 6 player game and two of the 7 player games while the outlaws won the other two. In my experience with the game with our group, that seems to be the norm for how the game goes. Players on both sides will take pot shots at whoever they have in range that they perceive as a threat, and outlaws will just open up on the Sheriff as soon as they are able.

Of course this sometimes leads to Outlaws taking each other out, or Deputies taking each other out, or even vindictive Sheriffs taking out Deputies, but it makes for a tense and fun game. Unless you're like me and are always the first one killed. We even have Outlaws killing other people they know for a fact are Outlaws just to get the bonus cards.

Unfortunately they are out of print and saying they will print in the "next couple of months" since mid 2k8, at least, when I started wanting to buy the game and following up the progress of release dates...

So no, they probably won´t release it at May nor at June...

Maybe 2k10 hopefully... Just praying for this great card game not to turn into a new "Duke Nukem forever"...

Anyway... Hope I´m wrong, but I´m definately sceptical...

GG all

The card (Gatling) which gives a Bang! to all players is not considered a Bang!-card. So you can play the Gatling-card and a Bang!-card on the same turn.

Other than that, great review! We just recently got into this game ourselves (4th edition), and are having loads of fun! The "ok, one more!"-factor is huge. We'll see how long it lasts ^_^ Hopefully we'll pick up an expansion or two as well.

Great review. We play 8-player Bang! with another family a lot, which does require the extra Dodge City role cards. A couple of comments and observations:

--Bang! plays best when played fast. There is a short learning curve getting to understand the cards, so the game will be slow and sometimes painful with new-comers.

--Killing off the weak is so much part of this game that eary elimination is to be expected. We usually play multiple games with the house rule that whoever was first eliminated in the previous game gets one free "resurrection" in the next.

--This game consequently is not for everyone. People who take personal offense when picked on or eliminated should avoid this one.

--As Stoneman commented, this is not a game of grand strategy. Play your character fast, loose and shoot from the hip.

BANG!

Great Review. My group of friends would play this every time if I let them. Works well with 4+ and with the expansion up to 8 players. I also have to agree with some of what was said about everyone shooting everyone else and nobody attacking the sheriff which is exactly what happens everytime we play. It also is frustrating because I have played like two dozen times and never been sheriff.

Other then that this game is great for a group of people who can just have fun and realize it is just a game. However if people don't play right this game can go quickly for some (dieing right off the bat) and drag on for others. This tends to be the case a good deal of the time as the sheriff starts shooting someone and everyone kinds of gangs up on them and kills them off. This makes a very short game for that person and they are left watching everyone else play.

by stoneman

I think you missed the point that no one knows who the deputy is and who the renegade is, or even who the bad guys are. The only role that everyone knows who is, is the sheriff.

Therefore, it is a question of timing. If the renegade shoots at the sherriff, then he looks like a bad guy. If he shoots at the bad guys, he looks like a deputy. If he starts shooting at both, then people begin to wonder. So the idea is to time your backstab. Its a great role to play.

Usually I try to shoot some random dude. It keeps people guessing, besides, I don't care who I kill, I just want to be the last guy standing. When the numbers of bad guys starts to dwindle, then I turn on the sheriff, and finally the deputy.

Trust me though, this is not a game of grand strategy. Its more fun to just pump lead into your friends.

Review: Bang!:: A Girlfriends Perspective on: Bang!

by cerenycus

When my boyfriend and I are getting ready to play games, we are usually limited by having not enough people to play some of our games, so our selection is pretty limited. During our last boardgaming night, we ran into the restraint of having too many people to play some of the games. We looked into our boardgame collecion and found Bang! We haven't attempted to play it before, as we had too few of people, and found it was the perfect time to play.

Contents

1 rule book
7 summary cards
103 cards

Recommended Players

This game recommends playing with between 4-7 players. I have found that the more players we have, the more fun the game is. I am basing this review on having 6 players.

Setup

It does not take long to setup the game. You are first going to shuffle the 7 role cards, and people are going to select the card they are going to play. If you happen to select the Sheriff, you are immediately going to reveal your card. If you draw something other then the Sheriff, you do not reveal your card to anyone. In the selection there are the following cards: 1 sheriff, 2 deputies, 3 outlaws, and 1 renegade

Photo taken by EndersGame

You are then going to shuffle the 16 character cards, on the back of the cards it will show to bullets. Each player is going to receive two cards. They are going to decide which character they want to play. Each character is going to have their own special power. On the side of the card, it is going to show a numbe rof bullets. Those bullets show how much health you start with. Once you have decided who you would like to be, you will place the other character card face down, so the bullets are showing, and the character card on top of it, showing the number of health you have remaining. Because the Sheriff card is revealed at the beginning, the Sheriff is automatically given one extra life point.

You will then shuffle the remaining 80 playing cards. The cards shuffled will be of a majority of different things:

25 Bang! cards
12 Missed! cards
6 Beer cards
4 Cat Balou and Panic! cards each
3 Duel, Jail, and Schofield cards each
2 Barrel, General Store, Indians, Mustang, Stagecoach and Volcanic cards each
1 Appaloosa, Dynamite, Gatling, Remington, Rev. Carbine, Saloon, Wells Fargo, and Winchester cards each

Each player is going to receive the number of cards equal to to the number of bullets they have on their card, and the Sheriff is going to start the game.

How to Play

There is not alot of rules with this game. There are going to be 3 simple actions.

1. Draw 2 cards
2. Play as many cards as you can/want
3. Discard to the number of bullets remaining

Draw 2 cards

At the beginning of your turn you are going to draw two cards from the draw pile. Once the draw pile is all gone, you are going to shuffle the discard pile and start again.

Play as many cards as you can/want

There are going to be a number of cards you may receive. Some of the cards are weapons, some allow you to draw additional cards, some allow you to draw cards from others.

There is a limit to how many of a certain card you are able to play. You are only able to play a Bang card once per round, unless you have a particular weapon which will allow you to shoot more than once.

There is going to be a card that will allow you to shoot multiple players, but it is still considered a Bang card, and can only play one.

If you were to get attacked by a player who has singled you out, there will be an opportunity to play "miss cards." You will want to keep those cards for later, as they will help protect you.

When choosing a player to attack, you are going to have to meet a certain range requirement. Each player sitting beside you is at a range of 1, go one player further and they are at a range of 2, and so on. There are going to be some weapons that allow you to shoot further than the 1 you start with, but there will also be cards to "move" you further away. You are only able to keep a limit of 1 weapon per person, however.

Discard to the number of bullets remaining

After you have played all the cards you can/want, you need to discard your hand to the number of bullets you have remaining. If you only have 1 bullet remaing, you are only able to keep 1 card.

Then it is the next player's turn.

How to Win

The Sheriff

Photo taken by KANDANG

The Sheriff card is automatically shown at the beginning of the game. It is ALOT of fun to play, when you have the right group of people, of course. If you have a group who will take accusatiions personally, and hold grudges after the game, this is probably not a game for you. We have played this game numeral times, and I was shocked each time we played, nobody started attacking the Sheriff right off the bat. They started attacking unknowns. One time we played, the Sheriff put his deputy in jail, and started shooting at him until he was dead, not focusing on anyone else. Needless to say, he didn't last long as the Sheriff.
Reply: Bang!:: Rules:: Re: Can't I voluntarily discard my cards?

As a response to Bonz and Gawain:
This came up earlier this evening.
I was Lucky Duke the Sheriff and my last opponent was Jesse Jones (Can choose to draw a card out of my hand at the beginning of his turn) the Renegade. At the end of my turn I wanted to discard Saloon because I was at full health so it would only benefit him.
We argued since the rulebook was vague and we hadn't seen or known of Suzy Lafayette (aforementioned character that can draw a card when she has none.)
This thread clears it all up nicely and maybe we wouldn't have needed it if we had known about Suzy. The rulebook ought to clarify still, though.

[edited to fix misspellings]

Naturally there are some rules not on the cards, but that's true of any game.

Shame I've never seen this version in the shops around here ... only lots of copies of an older version.

I know both Bang and Family Business have lots of cards that do weird & wonderful things, but before the cheatsheets we'd spend half the time in FB passing around the rules, in a way that we haven't needed to do in Bang.

Agreed. It bugs me when card games aren't "self-contained" and I have to keep looking at a sheet of paper to see what every card does. Of course, you have to do that until to get the gist of Bang's iconography, but there's no other way around it in FB than to memorize everything or to have a cheat sheet.
