The main complaint of the game, the randomness ,is the one thing I like about the game. It's an instant balance between different skill level opponents. I can play this with anyone, and not be assured a win just because I have played it more, or am a tactical genius, which I am not, which is why I love the game, I can actually relax, not worry overly much about what move I need to make on turn 7, and have FUN!

Great battle report, and it's fantastic to have games adults and kids can play together without holding back.

Not too ruin your session, but it may make you feel a little better, but wolf riders cannot go into the tower (nor can any units on horses, the canon, or the ogre).

Only the units on foot can go into the tower.

Session: Battle Masters:: In Which my Four Year Old Daughter Beats Me at Battle Masters

by armin101

I had purchased Battle Masters about 2 years ago after reading http://akapastorguy.blogspot.com/2009/11/chaos-army-is-on-ma.... I have 2 older sons, now age 7 and 5, who I envisioned playing this with. I've played 1 game with the 5 year old, but since then, nothing. Of course, my daughter watched that game, and this game asked to play.

After 2 years of this massive box sitting on my shelf, I was more than happy to give it a try. As noted, my daughter is only 4, she's a pretty smart kid, but still young. She is my best gamer and most committed game playing partner among the three.

The game is simple enough, so I figured with a little help, she should do fine. We set up the first scenario, she wants the bad guys and talks the Chaos Army. I explain the few hexes and hedges on the board, and we flip the first card.

My daughter is a beautiful little girl and the light of my heart. Being a little girl, the beast riders early on become a mommy and daddy and various other units are their babies. She is all happy voices and smiles as we start moving towards each other on the battle field.

I get a cannon fire, and easily take out a unit. She gets her Ogre Champion to move up the board, and even gets in one attack, destroying a unit of mine.

The first major strike is mine with an all army movement card. We have about 4 battles that turn, and I take out 2 more units.

It's at this point, the pretty voices end, and before and after I get the stink eye and stuck out tongue every time either of us have a battle. My sweet girl goes from Mommy's and Daddies to the bringer of death.

She makes most moves on her own, and really has only 1 movement that didn't make sense, but I let her play her game.

I do point out her objective is not to just kill my guys, it is to make it to the tower. So attacking is fun, and necessary, it isn't how she wins.

The cards at this point start all coming up for her, Chaos Army full move, another Ogre, and most importantly, double movement for the wolf riders. A heavily damaged unit has managed to sneak behind my line and is on the move.

I draw an Imperial Knights card and could move and attack the Wolf Rider, surely ending their advance. But I have crossbow men back there and the cannon is in range, she can't keep getting Wolf rider cards. So while even though I remind her of her goal and she's aware of it, I lose focus and move them to attack some goblins.

Despite some epic battles from there, I pull no cards that can stop the riders, and a few turn later, they sit a top my tower and my daughter is victorious.

She quickly goes to tell her brothers and mom as I am forced to clean up in disgrace. A well played game by a super little friend.

EPIOLGUE
She wanted to play another game, and pulls Zooloretto from the shelf. Again, she's pretty good at this and just needs a little help here and there.
I'm proud to say I beat here 29 to 28 as sweet revenge.

There is a small misunderstanding here. It looks like you downloaded the Battlemasters Vassal module. This module is for online play against another person with no AI.

The BM.exe file has no relation to the Vassal program. Simply double click the BM.exe file and the Battle masters PC game will start. Just be sure that you downloaded the "bm.zip" file which contains the BM PC game.

I hope I didn't confuse you more. :)

	It looks nice....
but I couldn't work out how to use it.

From your link, I downloaded the BM.exe.
Then I saw you have a vassal link.. so I realised that you need to install vassal to use this, which I did.
After that, I realised that I needed something else called battlemasters version 0.8 so I downloaded that.
Then I used vassal to open that file, and it opens your module.

I was able to place chaos units onto the board, in an offline mode, but was unable to place imperial units...

I don't know how to do that, or use the AI.
I did work out how to draw a card, but without an opponent this was pointless.

by LurchBrick

G'day all,

Just thought I'd share with you my attempt at recreating Battle Masters on the PC. I haven't had a chance to finish it due to real life but I'm hoping to get some time soon to continue polishing it off.

The AI is fairly simple.

The main feature is the ability to create your own scenarios and link them in to a campaign. You can even have a branching campaign system much like the PC game Wing Commander where if you lose a few battles, the scenarios get more difficult. There is an included campaign to show you how this can work.

http://members.westnet.com.au/brick27/compgame.html

Cheers

LB
