melissa and I have decided to attempt to create a Werewolf based town on brettspielwelt. We have done research into the creation of a town and what is required from a metagame standpoint. I have had some experience in the metagame, acting as a Treasurer and Security Officer for my current town, while melissa has done an amazing amount of reading to prepare herself. We have found that most of our games played are with other Werewolf players, and thought it would be a great idea to take our community to the next level.

For our proposal, we needed to come up with a description of what type of city we envisioned. This is the second draft of our Description:

Our city will be a town for the Werewolf community from BoardGameGeek (and friends). We are a cohesive group who frequently game together at BSW as well as at BGG and on PBW sites. The group communicates in English, although members come from several European countries as well as from Australia, Canada, the USA and the United Kingdom.
Landscaping, theme and city name all revolve around the idea that this is a poor semi-rural area under threat from outsiders (werewolves) – but are they really outsiders? We see the town as one of the backwaters of BSW’s world, at least thematically.
We have already planned to hold a “virtual gaming convention” on the weekend on July 7th, following the success of some of our community “game nights” and are keen to have our city established before then so we can make that a big Moving In festival (and earn resources to buy more buildings and play more games)

We also wanted to provide a description of what our town will look like when it is created. melissa and I have been working on the city builder tool and will hopefully have a picture to post within a couple of days. We are hoping to have a thematic city:

Matching our theme, the landscaping in our town will be very basic and rustic: Old huts, a Haunted House when we can afford one, dirt paths rather than roads. Straggly, scary-looking trees. And, of course, a central town square where we can find out about all the latest deaths news.
There’s a big lake to the South – but who knows what nasties live in there? And it’s safest not to go too near the Eastern Forest after dark!

If you are interested, and we know that you are, please post below your intention to join the city. Also, if you are interested in taking on more responsibility in a metagame role, please let us know.

Thanks,

Melissa and Greig.

PS. You may have noticed that we don't yet have a name for our city. We figured it would be more fun to have a contest to name the city. All citizens can enter ideas, and then we can vote on them. The winner gets something special. Not to be missed! Really!

I will play the part of the person who must be lynched every third day in order to make sure I'm still not a wolf.

I'm in too and will volunteer if needed.

I assume we should have a gallows permanently erected in the town square?

So what does it cost the town to have a resident in it? I play so sporadically that it is feast or famine. If I famine for a few months then feast the next month (gamewise), does that still benefit the town? How many games do we need to play there in order to not be a burden on society (which I'm sure will get me lynched).

We were hoping that a citizen would play games that would earn a minimum of 150 points per month. At this point we see that as the breaking point. Depending on how many people we have and how well our town is doing otherwise, the number may fluctuate.

I'd say, join and if it doesn't work out, we'll lynch you.

I have not played the Metagame at BSW at all, and have little to know idea what you are talking about being a burden on the town. I'm assuming I get points for playing a game at BSW, and that I must pay taxes to my town every month so If I'm not playing enough to pay my taxes I get booted from town?

That sounds like a great plan. Sign me up!

Actually, if I had a nice group of people to hook up with then I'd play a lot more. I expect I'd average at least 150 across a 3 month period.

How does this translate in terms of games played/month??

I think you get 15 points from a game of Settlers... so let's estimate 2.5 games per week and 10 games per month.

I'm not sure this is up to date but this is new to me. This shows points values for games played:

I think that information used to be hidden on BSW but they now have it out on public display:

http://www.brettspielwelt.de/MetaSpiel/Levelsystem/

So if you're looking to maximise your points, play 5 player Caylus! Or 6 player Power Grid! Or 5 games in a row of 2p Ingenious (which is probably faster).

Call me a maybe...I don't play much online anymore. But I might be able to scrape up enough time to join. (:

If I'm on MSN (anonymouse512) then I'm usually available to play - send me a message and if I don't respond, I left it on when I'm gone (oops).

Should have some kind of list of games each person willing to play somewhere (here?).

I'll happily join, though I know not a thing about the metagame.
I'd no idea a non-participating player actually HURT his community.
GUILT

Still, I'm in.

I'll join. But I've never really participated much at all with the metagame. It just doesn't interest me. And of course, I'm going on hiatus in a week and a half...

One day I'll get broadband at home, and then I'll join.

Latecomer to town? Nobody trusts him? I don't get it. You had werewolves long before *I* turned up.
(But vampires, necromancers, Medusa? Perhaps I bring these.)

It doesn't matter, as long as you are just a citizen of ARMfeld. When you're there, I think you pay taxes.

Once you become a citizen of a city, the city has to feed and clothe you. This uses points, which the city earns when people play games in its game rooms.

Our city will (try to) be tax-free. We just want everyone to Play More Games.

It's great to see so much enthusiasm, but we still have a way to go to get this proposal together.

One really important thing, as Greig mentioned, is that we need a name for our town. Given that we have vetoed GreigVille and LissaLand (well, ONE of us has vetoed each of those names), we're asking for suggestions.

Lycanthrocity and Lupus Landing are two possible names that we have thought of. We're VERY open to other suggestions, as well as to names for our game rooms.

I've really only played Caylus on BSW, but I'd play more if I had a regular group over there. Count me in!

And name...Miller's Hollow?
