Hello future people,
In this thread we played a game. There were two results from the game. One was that one BGGer (bard) got a new game (Power Grid). The other result is a long list of some pretty cool words that speak something about the person who posted it (for the most part, anyway). It might be a few pages, but since the posts are one word each, it wont take you long. Read through it and see what words spark something in you. Maybe you'll find a new GeekBuddy or get a good laugh. You never know.
Feel free to add your word to it. The game might be over, but the result need not be.
Greg
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's play a game.
I will buy someone a game in the $25 to $35 dollar range from an online retailer and have it shipped to your house with no strings attached. I don't want anything in return, and anyway, you'd have a hard time with that as I'm in France and I don't know how to use the postal system (la Poste).
To play, you must post in this thread. Do not tell me why you deserve a game, or how you're broke and can't afford one, or you really want one but you have to hide everything from your wife. I know all the reasons. I'm a gamer.
I came to France, a place I've never been, and there are gamers here. Which means that I have friends. Becoming a board gamer is singlehandedly the best thing I've done for myself in years. It means that I have friends anywhere, always willing to play a game. It doesn't matter if they speak the same language or not. It doesn't matter if they know who I am or not. It's about the game, the social aspect of gaming.
I'm going through a lot of unexpected turbulence in my personal life right now, and gaming is literally saving it. Gaming and friends. For me, right now, maintenant, that's what life is about. And I can't say thank you enough.
So I'd buy you all a game if I could, but I'm not rich. I don't have a six figure salary. (Or seven or eight, smart ass.)
So here are the rules:
1) Limited to the United States. Sorry. Why? Because that's where my home is, and it's cheaper to ship there.
2) Your want list must be updated. I'll choose from items marked Must Have.
3) You must post in this thread. Your message must have one word, and one word only. An actual word. I don't care which, but if you do something like ireallywantagamebecauseihaveterminalcancer then you're disqualified because you can't follow simple rules.
4) You must post between now and 9:00 AM EST tomorrow. (Because my laptop is still on EST.) Anything after that is cut off.
5) If you post twice, you're disqualified. How hard is it to follow one simple rule? Geez.
How I will choose:
Either I like your word, or I'll just pick one at random. If I know you, you don't have and greater shot than anyone else. Like I said, I'd buy all my friends a game if I could. But one will have to do.
If all your Must Haves are not available in the US, too expensive or out of print, I'll pick someone else.
And if you're asking me, no, seriously, why are you willing to buy a complete stranger a game? The honest answer is because I thought of doing it, and the thought isn't going to go away until I do it.
Oh, and if it happens that I'm sometime in your neighborhood in the future, I may fancy a game. But I don't travel a ton (I have four kids), so no guarantees.
EDIT: Ok, before someone tries to stage an intervention, gaming isn't PHYSICALLY saving my life. I'm okay, and as mentally positive as always. It's just that I REALLY, REALLY appreciate gamers everywhere, recently more than ever. For far too long, I forgot what life was about, and now I'm spending some time working to remember.
EDIT 2: First, thank you for the GG. I will, of course, be passing it along, but the thought behind it is very appreciated. It's all part of this. (I actually already have an UberBadge, I've just never gotten around to making one. Thanks Chris.) Secondly, since we have a number of pages, I'll likely determine the recipient by randomly choosing a page (by rolling a virtual die, from 1 to x) and then rolling again, from 1-25 for the posts on that page. Finding the number on that page, I'll roll again 1 - 10 to find the range from that point. My favorite word choice that falls within that range will get it. That way, I'm not biased as to the recipient or anything.
I see that you guys are scouring my likes and dislikes to find a good word, but again, this isn't about me. I'd rather see words that you like. We're all individuals (let's say it together, we're all individuals), and I'm just a guy who got it in his mind to do this thing. There ain't no right answer or right word, but I'm very glad that people are grokking the spirit of the thread: If you're a gamer, you've always got a friend.

So now I've read the whole article. And I know by now I am not qualified. And I'm disqualified again by typing this post. Sigh. Did get the one-word right, though
Nice thought, good luck!

I don't want or need a game but I think this is a fantastic thing to do, an incredible idea. And I hope the turbulence in your life is soon smoothed over.
