While we've never played the snazzy Atlantis version pictured here, my friends and I have all enjoyed the original Survive. We added in some more rules that I should get around to compiling for you... we fashioned a three player game where the fourth color set acted as the island's natives. The natives are moved around by any player and have no interest in escaping. They are a force of chaos on the island and just want to kill the other groups. We thought the randomized elements of the tiles just weren't vicious enough. It's great fun to spend your turn points sending angry natives on a killing spree through your opponents' people.

We also added straight hand-to-hand combat between people (1 turn point gets you hand-to-hand with any enemy person in your hex... higher die roll wins and you can gang up on enemies to get more die rolls. (Aside: hand-to-hand on land results in death for the loser. Hand-to-hand on a boat just tosses people into the water.)

For a few, ugly games, we gave the rowboats the ability to shoot cannonballs, both to kill the sea creatures and opponents. This proved way too powerful, so we took it out.

Fun game! I'll have to go search eBay for the newer edition.
