Days of Wonder has changed their website- including adding more info about Cleopatra.
Looks interesting.

Wow is that site bad...
Ugly, childish looking.
I think it looks much more unprofessional than before...

Maybe it will take some getting used to, but I'm not particularly charmed by the new look either.

Not sure I like it.
The old site featured the artwork style of the DoW games. I enjoyed that. It seems more "clinical" somehow.

Not my first choice of site designs, but it (and the old site, IMO) still fit the art style and presentation of the DOW games.

Oh, my. What a remarkable step backward. I'm sorry that the major elements of this site design won't tip off gamers to the high-quality artwork they include in all their games unless they click through to deeper levels.
I am, however, glad to see more info on Cleopatra -- it looks great!

While I'd laugh in the face of anyone who thought the old one was really really great, this new one is definitely much worse.

I read all of these comments and then went to the site expecting to see a hideous and vile representation of crap, when in fact I saw a decent looking site. I don't see the problem. Has anyone seen Rio Grande's website!?!

So, by your standards, is a 1 week old dead corpse more alive than a 1 year old dead corpse?

From a useability and interface viewpoint, that site is horrible. From a web standards viewpoint, that site is horrible. From a design standpoint, I've seen a lot worse.
The site is 80% graphics. Yuck. Give us some text. Less is more in web design.

Really, can you get any more generic in your look-and-feel for a company website than this. When you go to a website, you are supposed to get a feel of what the company is like. You get nothing from this design. Very sterile.
Going through the site, it looks like a lot of design decisions were made to make updating the site easier, with more generic templates for each game, a list of games that can easily be updated with new ones. All of which is laudable goals for a company web site. Too bad they let the developers do the design of the site as well.

Not as bad as some sites but not as good as the old site.

The new site is going to take some getting used to.
Regardless, I'm not much interested in going to the DOW site until they enable playing of Memoir '44 online.
I'd be willing to pay money for that.

Don't think anyone has ever said the RGG website was a good one.
And the DoW website is better than most european game publishers websites. Most of them looks like they were developed by taking geocities as an example.

Bring back the old site, please.
Or put up M'44 online version and I will hold my nose and forgive you.

You know what? I will give them a
for this. Do I like the old site better? Absolutely.
But let's give Days of Wonder some credit here. How many companies would even try and take a risk on improving an already great site? Some people may think that's crazy, but I think it is great. It shows me something about Days of Wonder's character.
We should applaud the effort because quite frankly, it is that kind of dedication which is why we get to enjoy so many fabulous boardgames from them in the first place. It is also the same foreshadowing of the type of agressive new box art we saw from DOW for "Ticket to Ride Marklin". They took a risk there to break from their traditional mold and quite frankly that one worked BIG time. It was one of their best box covers to date.
So I think this website just indicates that the second half of 2006 will be a very strong return to form. They have far more hits than misses and they are trying to shake things up a bit.
That could lead to some VERY exciting stuff later this year and into next year.
