Heh. Well, if you've ever been to Wisconsin, you might call us "American Scandinavia."

(Just means that the place was populated by a lot of Scandinavian immigrants. And German. I have German, Danish, and Norwegian ancestry. One's European roots mean a lot to the people around here. I'm told this is somewhat mystifying to our European friends. I had a co-worker who was proudly Irish, even though he was born and raised in Missouri. Another friend strongly identifies with her Swedish roots, subscribes to Swedish magazines, and celebrates the feast day of Santa Lucia every year.)

But the real reason we jokingly called it "European Wisconsin" is because Wisconsin is a north-central state in America that is a little colder, friendlier and more progressive than your average American state. It's almost our own Canada.

And judging from the flags on the backs of their pickups, a lot of people in the "Deep South" of the U.S. (and I'm still waiting to learn what's "deep" about it) wouldn't consider the Civil War over, either, but that doesn't change anything, except how those people are perceived.

You chaps keeping your sterling pound around is your version of mounting a flag in the back of the pickup truck. Give up; you will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

Alternatively, you could join the U.S. (Of course, you'd probably hear the laughter of irony all the way across the Atlantic, for years.) Heck, we'd probably even let you have two or four states, just so we can keep the number of stars on the flag an even number. But then you'd have to learn how to actually serve a hamburger, and keep that hideous yeast crap off the breakfast table, so that doesn't seem likely...

warfish.net... It started out as a straight Risk implementation (that works flawlessly as PBW/PBEM), and now they've started putting in all sorts of rule options. Eg, Turn-at-once, which plays out like a cross of Dimplomacy and Risk.

Good stuff. But you have to be invited to a game to play. Once invited, you are part of the system and can make your own games.
