Sorry if this is a pointless post or if someone already flagged it, but my wife stumbled across the hilarious little auction of some poor sap's game collection by his ex-landlord. Read a bit of it, if only for laughs. If this is at all true, the guy seems genuinely pissed off about the gamer who vacated...the current prices aren't all that bad.

http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&cam...

Obviously, this link will have limited humor value.

Hilarious! Apparently I have some growing up to do as well. By the looks of it, this guy took the crap and left some good stuff. He's probably fuming right now...I would be.

This was a grown man-child as far as I am concerned. But don't worry, the games were all put in a special place so they would not get trampled or "lost" in his room. And I can guarantee every little part is included in the sets. Some things he held like precious diamonds but the everyday things in his life and common sense seemed to just fly out the window.

So is this legal? I thought that even if someone owes you something, you're not allowed to just take something of theirs in return as payoff without going through the legal process.

I'm guessing that the games belong to this fellow, and he's just brushing up on his comedy writing skills. The "fizzy water" and "Home Depot for tools" comments were too funny to be legit!

I'm sure the law varies form state to state, and I am no lawyer, but it is true that you can't seize a tenant's assets without due process -- but if they left it behind after moving out it probably falls under abandoned property and is fair game (just like if you put it out to the curb).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this was a JOKE...look at how many hits it's generating. If it's NOT, I'm amazed at how much time went into the guys 'rant'. He must really hate the "ex-tenant". Still, very funny. My favorite part is the D&D reference.

I wish him luck, whether the games are his or not.

Also, as another aside, this so-called "ex-tenant" sounds a lot like some of the guys I've gamed with !!

'natch.

This is eBay at its finest. I've sold on eBay for years. People get creative when they sell things - sometimes really telling tall tales. Nobody really believes them, it is purely to add some color to a same old-same old auction scene. This is marketing, no doubt, and entertainment. More power to the seller in my book. Not only are they selling stuff, but they are entertaining users as people read the listing. I give the seller a thumbs up for their creativity. It has no impact on the fact of what they are selling, the condition, nor the shipping costs. Those are the only facts that really matter when selling on eBay.

I've read some horribly tragic stories on eBay as people are selling their Magic collections. If all that really had happened the last thing people would do is worry about selling a box of magic cards for 50 bucks.

Enjoy it for what it is - humor! laugh

He destroyed the carpet in his room and the hallway to his room and even in my home office. He liked to chew tobacco and slop his friggin chew juice wherever he went. You could never go into his room cause it smelled like chew and his clothes and crap were all over the floor. He even had piles of easter candy wrappers with some chocolate still in them to melt into the carpet. Disgusting. Luckily I am a clean freak and also had a monthly bug service for the whole house, but this guy was just a plain slob with no respect for others' property.

Would you really want to touch, let alone own, a game from this guy, if in fact he was trully this kind of a slob? He was a slob, but kept his games in "mint condition"? I'm not buying it, even if it was a cute story to sell games, when something doesn't seem right, it usually isn't..

I remember seeing an auction for an 'Evil Kermit' (maybe I got the link from BGG) where someone had taken a stuffed Kermit the Frog and took pictures of him with a bottle of JD, 'throwing up' in the toilet, holding a knife, and driving a car. Made up some story about how he was evil and they had to get rid of him. For their story they got over $200 IIRC - for a used teddy bear! I wish I was that creative!

...oh yeah, and if they were pissed off about a tenant and selling off his stuff:

1. The ONLY thing left behind were board games??

2. Why didn't they start all the auctions at $1? If he was truly pissed off, he would't be selling Lost Cities for $12 with a BIN of $15.

I've seen that one, and it wasn't just the story that netted them the cash. The auction was to recoup some emergency medical bills, if I'm not mistaken.

Oh, and I read that "Roommate from Hell" thing, linked above. That's so hideous and ridiculous that I'm tempted to think that it's also a case of a creative writing experiment.

Whoop, my bad. From the Golden Palace Casino archive of the Evil Kermit auction:

Quote:
****** I have had several people ask me what we will do with any $'s we may receive from our adopting out Kermit. We are a young military family with 4 kiddo's and separating as of April. Any proceeds will go to helping us make the transition from military back to the civilian life. We are moving cross country and hopefully VERY VERY far away from Kermit. This is an open adoption, we welcome any pictures or reports on his mental progess over the next months, just dont think about sending him back to us! We are trying to make a fresh start, Kermitless! ..*******

If I had a nickel for every auction on eBay that was for purported emergency medical bills I'd be wealthy enough to retire quite comfortably. It is another 'strategy' employed regularly on eBay. I am sure there have been a few legit cases, but most are just people trying to squeeze an extra few bucks out of an auction. There's a sucker born every minute.

So, maybe one of my next auctions should be for a demon-possessed sandwich fragment that looks like Miss Piggy, was left by a sleezy former tenant to help pay the bills, and I need to sell it quickly due to a medical emergency. How's that? Any takers?
