Northern Cali. He should be saying "Hella."
"I Hella got your back."
Only SoCal-derived folks like myself say "Dude." Well, really only people who grew up near the beach.
Dude.

I thought the joke might be that Chris adamantly defends this game whilst everyone else ferociously attacks it..
But no really, can someone explain this?

Shouldn't Beowulf look more like Herr Reiner??
What next? Dragonriders and Chris Farrell?

Nah, it's because Chris defends the game (and he's right, too). I thought that one was pretty funny.

No, Frank IS an FFG fanboy, but those ridiculously elegant and playtested Knizia games don't count, didn't you know?

There's way too much background information required to figure out what the joke is supposed to be. Less in-crowd knowledge, and more general fun please!

Quote: No, Frank IS an FFG fanboy, but those ridiculously elegant and playtested Knizia games don't count, didn't you know? Yeah, that's right. He only likes the broken unplaytested garbage like Descent and World of Warcraft.
Seriously though, he likes a lot of FFG games, but he's intelligent and he's not gonna blindly fall for any game they make, just because it's by FFG.

Absolutely hilarious!
Basically, Chris Farrell's blog is the source of this, in which he defends Beowulf practically more than any other game.
I really like how referential this one is and that it is saying something about the boardgaming "scene" rather than only the games themselves. It's just a very profesionally done comic that is actually documenting something about the boardgamers and the games of this time, and not simply the games themselves. Guess what, the gamers are here too!

Huh? By all reports this one is too random even for the FFG fanboys. I've read the opinion of generally like-minded gamers and this was what I came to the conclusion of.
Knizia games DO count for me...my favorite game acquisition of the past few months has been Ra, and I have discovered I may never tire of LOTR: The Confrontation...
The comic is pretty funny on several different levels, most of which are mentioned here. But Frank is right--the theme of this game is razor thin...

This is hysterical and delightfully obscure for those outside the BGG community - the reference to "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" is what sends it over the top.

I'm sure there are tons of people who open a copy of U.S New and World Report and say "huh?" to the polical cartoons. They have a context to them that some readers just won't get. Still funny over all. You'll have to be prolitic in the hobby to get some of these cartoons. Desert island games goes way back on threads of DiGgers,Spielfrieks and R.G.B, or Chris Farrell defending a game that most people are panning.
Funny stuff, subtle meanings, not so shallow and lowbrow as "wood for sheep!"*rimshot*
I like it.

No, Frank doesn't blindly fall for FFG games, he just rates them all 8-10. No fanboy there!

So, help me out here, Ken, as a self-proclaimed FFG fanboy like Frank: have you played the game or not? You speak with authority as if you had, but from your first paragraph I'm not sure.
Unlike you both, I'll happily choose gameplay over theme every time. Theme alone does not a great game make, and I'd posit that bloat aside, the theme of TI3 is wafer-thin as well.
