I've done this:

Spoiler (click to reveal)
Drew a line between the corresponding numbers. However, the line only crosses a letter in 5 of the 6 pairs, and I'm not getting a word.

Can I get a GM with my error or the final push? Thanks.

Ok, I thought the opposites in the quotes might mean
Spoiler (click to reveal)
Look for the letters between the numbers.

That worked for most, giving 1 letter at a time, but not all.
Spoiler (click to reveal)
I get 2/10 I, 3/12 W and 5-7 D.

Doesn't seem to be right. Or is that the right idea and I just stalled out midway? Any help?

And if you are feeling generous, I am feeling stuck.

I posted about 3 messages back. I think I have 4 letters if my method is correct. If not, I got nothing.

Instead of GMing clues to people, feel free to just post them here with a spoiler tag. You know, so we don't have to scroll through a bunch of "GM me the answer?" and "GM sent" messages and STILL not have found a hint!

You're both on the right track, but some of the letters don't obviously cross the lines. Just look again with a bit more tolerance. If you want to check your pairs, spoiler:
Spoiler (click to reveal)
1-6, 2-10, 3-12, 4-8, 5-7, 9-11

Ahhhhh. That's what was killing me.
Spoiler (click to reveal)
I insisted on believing the pairs were one from column A and one from column B. 1-6 + 7-12. Oops.

Thanks. Easy now.

Got it. Just had to be generous with my line. A thicker line would not have had me as confused! Thanks.

DJ - I usually request that people who need help GM me what their particular thinking is so that I can craft a custom response that nudges them in the right direction from where they are right at that time. Most people have expressed appreciation for a custom nudge.

If I find that I am getting requests from people stuck in the same place, I will then post something that will help the general public get over that rough place.

If you just want the solve methodology out in the open, then go to the site Saltone posted.

So, here are my initial thoughts:

Spoiler (click to reveal)
The listed abbreviations are the postal abbreviations for various U.S. States.

The words "Capital Connections" suggest to me to draw lines between the state capitals.

But when I do this, it doesn't look like anything meaningful. Anyone got any hints to help out a bit?

-K

EDIT: I tried doing the same thing as above, and got the correct answer. For those of you who are stuck, here is another spoiler:

Spoiler (click to reveal)
You've either got to be more precise in lining up your lines, or you've got to really try to make out the word.

OK, I've figured it out. Here's a clue for anybody else who was stuck like me:

Spoiler (click to reveal)
The - symbol in the clue totally threw me off. It made me think that things that were supposed to be separate were connected and things that were supposed to be connected were separate.

Yes, I was in the exact same boat. And we were on the right track. My above hint should help out.
