You're close onthe first part. On the second part arrange the letters by color and perform a similar operation to them.

Reading down it like reading the puzzle clues came naturally even with missing a few letters. OH! I see that is where the green and orange must come in!

Fun!

It's easier if you tell us where you are in the puzzle. Some salt to get you started though:

The letters that are in each row actually form a phrase - except each word is missing its first letter. Note then there is one color mark for each word (or missing letter actually) in the phrases. Those color are laid out on the bottom.

While you might find the money angle amusing after you figure it out, further pursuing that path may do more harm than good. I suggest focusing strongly on the last sentence and doing what it asks you to.

Look to the 'Q' if you need further help, but figuring out the theme will be key.

An ash I know, Yggdrasil its name. With water white is the great tree wet; thence come the dews that fall in the dales. Green by Urth's well does it ever grow.

Avoid the money path entirely.

Spoiler (click to reveal)
Nick was right. Focus on the last sentence as a request for you to make good upon.

The green is what gave me the aha moment, relative to that sentence. (Not meaning money, though). Instead, this is the color of something that the dropped items may land upon.
