Finally got it.

To me it seems like these last few puzzles all have a step that doesn't have any clue as to how to get to that step.

I'm in agreement here. The few previous puzzles at least had some nugget in the text that hinted at the approach. Here, there was absolutely nothing that I could see which told you to

do a 7-11 split with the words

before proceeding to the arrow step.

Or am I missing something?

Okay, I have the words, but what do the arrows mean? They just have me going around in circles. I'm sure that the words should be in some kind of grid, but there is no info on what goes on what line...any hints that can push me in the right, or left as the case may be, arrow direction?

Edit: Nevermind. I got it, but not without help from the hubby. Whew! Interesting puzzle, but I never would have gotten it without help. Thanks to everyone who posts the spoilers for those of us in desperate need of additional brain power.

As in most things in our culture, the images and arrows are to be taken left to right, top to bottom.

This puzzle was irritating because it lacked a clue. It was apparent we had to identify the pictures, and the arrows referred to the pictures. However, we were not given any more information. Which led to me:

writing the words forwards and backwards according to the arrows
using the first letter or last letter according to the arrows
putting the words in alphabetical order and trying to use the arrows again
taking the first two letters of each word or the last two letters of each word
searching the blog for an answer which yielded the solution

After I got the answer I was irked that there is nothing in the puzzle which tells us to take the first and last letters of the words. It appears someone did it eventually just through blind luck. There should have been some text block which referred to Steinbeck's insane sister's first and last words. Something which would have logically led us to use the first and last letter of each word. Solving this one was not satisfying.

Is it just me, or does Tanga seem to be going stale? The puzzles have reverted back to being who ever guesses the right approach instead of being something deductive. The products don't seem to be inspiring. And I have over a hundred tanga points just sitting there. What's the point? I am just getting bored with the site. When will we see it go to the next level?

The initials matter

The coins in the background matter

The prices matter

Find the clue, then it becomes a small guessing game

Two words in the paragraph are key to solving this puzzle. Think combinations of the nine coins. After I got to this point it took me a while to figure out which sport to use.

I'm thinking the two important words are initial and change, but I'm not sure how to determine which initials to take or how they work together. I've pieced together the coins to see which items I can buy and which I can't...but I'm still confused.

Is it just me or

Spoiler (click to reveal)

are there too many cities that can fit the bill to choose from. Admitedly, once I started googling every t*** for all m*** cities, I got there, but I had to type in a bunch of wrong answers first. I can see why the 'correct' answer is the one they opted for since it sort of fits with the rest of the theme...but still, it was annoying to rely solely on trial and error to narrow it down.

Oh well...overall, the puzzle had merit and I enjoyed the concept...just disliked the bumpy ending.

Whoa. Again, without a few clues, I would have been clueless. I think I am getting worse at these than better as I go along. Oh well, still racking up those Tanga points in the hopes they will be useful for something! Night t'all!
