My question with tonight's puzzle: was it someone from BGG who made it up?

Personally, I thought it was too easy, especially for 3 points.

I doubt it. The contest lasts for another day or so. I would imagine the fan puzzles would start after that or after the first of the year.

I like the occasional easy one - makes me feel smarter, and gives me more motivation to tackle the tough ones.

Well, I don't think it's that easy. I'm pretty sure I've got the right words, but the letters I get just make up a word that doesn't make sense to me. Any hints available, please?

Change your words - the answer is spelled out directly when you have the right words.

You're right, Giles. Just consider that there are two five letter words.

I know it's supposed to be easy, but I've never had the tolerance for this kind of activity. (No, I don't consider this a puzzle either.)

Can someone just Geekmail me the answer? I looked at the puzzle when it was posted, so I'm already looking at over 22 hours on this one. robot

My thoughts thus far:
Spoiler (click to reveal)
I may be way off track, but it seems we remove letters from the countries?
What seems most likely, but doesn't seem to work is something like:
Germany is representated by a flag, so
Germany-flag=ermny
italy-knife=taly
and so on.
This doesn't seem to work though.

That clue was enough for me to get three items; I was able to trial-and-error my way to the answer from there ... but what's a ten-letter word whose third letter is what it is?
