How would this play with a 7yo? Could he hold his own, or need to be on a team? How about a 5yo?

Because of the card texts, child players must be literate or have a partner to help.

Also, because in some situations players "lose" an established church, the child needs to be mature enough to handle some frustration.

I would suggest a coach for the seven-year-old and a narrator to explain the story that's unfolding to the five-year-old, who probably will lose interest before anyone gets close to Rome.

I use the game successfully with upper elementary and middle schoolers.

I agree. The decisions are generally very simple, but it can be frustrating to have a church "break" when you're not right outside it, and realize how big a problem it would be to go back. With someone to walk them through it, though, I think this would be a great game for a younger kid.
