dkeisen suggested over on a geeklist ( http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/17392) that it would be useful to have a tool that says what you own that someone else doesn't. That way, when you go over to Gamer X's house, you can quickly generate a list of what you own that they don'. Using the XML API I made a little web page that does just that:
http://boardgamestuff.com/cgi/gamevisitcalc
Enjoy.

Cool stuff - great job!
Without diminishing this cool bit of programming, here's some more suggestions to fuel your next big thing:
- Reverse the rating order so we see what the other fellow considers his best stuff that we don't have.
- Include an option to show his games by my other differentiating attributes (combinations of the following): >my ratings (settable rating threshold) >games I've recorded plays for (number of plays threshold) >games I've rated >opton to group by each attribute checked >on my want list >games by year (settable specific year or range)
- generate the list across more than two geeks (unique among the members)

Best wishes to you all for 2011. xxx
Mostly offline, but trying.

This is great - thanks!!
I discovered that apparently I own 33 games that my husband doesn't - and he has 113 or so that I didn't.

Yep that was 12 Power Grid maps back to back over two days. Worth doing, but possibly not in such a concentrated burst.
Ooh yes, now a little to the left - my nose is itchy. No, no the other left! Now what colour is 12 supporter badge going to be I wonder?

And I discovered that Melissa doesn't own at least two of the games she thinks she does
P.S. Great tool Matthew, thanks heaps!

Yeah, I'm a bit late to the party.
How easy would it be to allow you to add multiple people to the compare? So for instance I could see what I have that no one else in my guild has?

This doesn't appear to be up any more, is this tool still available?
EDIT: I found this: http://bggtoys.appspot.com/compare
But it doesn't appear to be working. When trying to compare between two users (RHITMojo and Hobbes_Inc) I got the following error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/base/python_runtime/python_lib/versions/1/google/appengine/ext/webapp/_webapp25.py", line 701, in __call__ handler.get(*groups) File "/base/data/home/apps/bggtoys/1.331290873413928439/main.py", line 53, in get bcoll = bggcoll.GetCollection(userb) File "/base/data/home/apps/bggtoys/1.331290873413928439/bggcoll.py", line 69, in GetCollection return GetGames(CollTree(FetchAndStoreCollection(user))) File "/base/data/home/apps/bggtoys/1.331290873413928439/bggcoll.py", line 73, in FetchAndStoreCollection rawxml = urlfetch.fetch("http://www.boardgamegeek.com/xmlapi/collection/%s?all=1" % user).content File "/base/python_runtime/python_lib/versions/1/google/appengine/api/urlfetch.py", line 263, in fetch return rpc.get_result() File "/base/python_runtime/python_lib/versions/1/google/appengine/api/apiproxy_stub_map.py", line 592, in get_result return self.__get_result_hook(self) File "/base/python_runtime/python_lib/versions/1/google/appengine/api/urlfetch.py", line 371, in _get_fetch_result raise DeadlineExceededError(str(err)) DeadlineExceededError: ApplicationError: 5
Also, is there any possible way to update the tool to show you the difference between your collection and a guild's collection?
