All games that have a single winner are effectively elimination games. The only question is how close the elimination is perceived to be to the end of the game.

That's why I like games like Carcassonne or TTR, that have a hidden scoring component. In German we have a saying that goes "Wer zuletzt lacht, lacht am besten." (Who laughs last, laughs best.) If I had GG for all those times where a surefire winner had to admit defeat in the end, I'd have an avatar by now!
