Edit - at the bottom of the article online, you can add your comments. Jump on with a bunch of games you like to play and link to BGG.

http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/ViewArticle.aspx?ArticleID=26...

I did an interview last week on my collection and the club. The story finally ran, page 3, big photo of me playing Ticket to Ride against myself three times. Good story too, I'm still slagging off Monopoly but old habits die hard. And I got the link to BGG in.

Result! Get your copy today.

And...knock knock, two reporters from a press agency on my doorstep, more photos, so I might get into the national papers or more.

Cheers,
Jon.

The photos of me are online too:
http://www.photostoday.co.uk/Gallery.aspx?GalleryID=11186
but you have to page to the end of page 10 to see me play with myself.

Wow, you go to a different Essen than the one I have heard of ... only 1500 people? ;)

Yeah, that's the only fact he got wrong! But other than that (and calling me a bachelor!), the story is accurate. No mis-quoting this time.

If anybody needs a copy, I've bought 600.

Cheers,
Jon.

Great article, Jon.

Congratulations and good luck with making the national press!

...ps (after reading the above) - the UK press getting the facts wrong? Surely not! That's never been heard of before, has it?

What are you then, a spinster? :D

You're actually on the front page of the site, too (OK, it's the last link in the News section, but it's there). If I were you, I would be taking screenshots.

Hey Jon,
congrats, great article!
And I have to say: a game group with 38 participants is awesome!
Cheers,
Hermann

That's my point. They wouldn't call a woman a spinster these days. Single, that's good enough.

Good idea with the screenshots. In the paper, my photo is the top strap-line, page 1 above the fold! Woot! "Bored with your computer? Jon's £10,000 board game collection"

There's one newsagency here in town that carries lots of overseas newspapers ... I will have to see if they take the Yorkshire Post.

Somehow, I doubt it, though. :(

Nice article. Still got in a few blasted Monopoly references, though, didn't he... I've emailed the author to correct his Essen mistake and to praise the article (always massage reporters' egos!).

Well done for pushing this - I look forward to reading how it turns out, now you're in the public eye! :)

Edit: the reporter emailed me back very quickly: he realises he got the number wrong. Ooops!

Oh that was me! I'm not out the habit of slagging it off yet. I still find it's an angle that plays well here. Everybody has played Monopoly and ended in a row at least once. I still think it's the inherent nature of the game that does that.

Yeah, he apologised already. But thanks for praising him too. I do try to praise journalists if they do a good story on games. Positive reinforcement.

One wonders if the writer's original article read "150000" and the zero was accidentally dropped somewhere between his computer and the printing presses...

Bonus for including mention of games with a local connection.

Hmm, maybe more people should participate in things like this. It would be great publicity. But I'd also include mentions that not everyone participating has such a huge collection, that might scare some parents away!

In all a great article.

Thanks Donald. It was the size of the collection that got the paper interested. It's a regional paper covering the whole of Yorkshire and it's sold around the UK. So they look for unusual stories with a local link. I fitted the bill!

But yeah, I bet if lots of BGG regulars got onto thelocal press or radio, they'd get a story out pretty easily.

Your story is mentioned in "The Metro" Todays issue, page 9.
Just one paragraph, nothing compared to your local rag, but thought you would like to know.
