Okay, so my wife and I are arguing this point.

With the speed die, if you get the mr. monopoly icon, you go your regular number of spaces, and then...

either one, if there are properties left to buy, go to the next available one and buy or have it auctioned...

or two, if there are no properties (and I quote the rule exactly out of the rulebook) you "Advance to the NEXT property on which you will owe another player money."

So, here's the argument... I own the reading railroad and oriental ave. therefore, if she is coming around the corner, with mr. monopoly, she would have to move to my next property, reading railroad, and pay me rent. Now I say if I mortgage reading railroad, then i still own the property, however it is not a property that she would have to owe me money on. Therefore, she will NOT owe me money there and she must go to oriental, the next property I own and conveniently have three houses on.

She says since she "could" owe me money there if it's not mortgaged, then she does not have to go to oriental. Any opinions or official rulings you know about?

Because Reading is mortgaged, she DOES NOT owe rent there. Therefore, she skips over it to Oriental, and pays the rent. If, however, ALL of your properties were mortgaged, then she would stay where she is.

About the only question I have is this: I have MEGA MONOPOLY (I was one of the participants in the recent MM Tourney in Atlantyic City, NJ) and don't feel like paying to get the new "Speed Die" edition of regular Monopoly. I see from the older postings here that the Mr. Monopoly is being handled more-or-less the same as in MM, but how is the Bus side being used, seeing as how there are no Bus Ticket cards in the orig. game?

With Mr. Monopoly, you move forward to the next space where you will pay rent. This means mortgaged properties are skipped. The current rules for Mega Monopoly at Winning Moves Games are pretty clear on this point. But remember that you can't do anything between a player's white-dice move and their Mr. Monopoly move, so you can't let your wife throw the dice, and then decide to mortgage something before she gets to it.

As far as the Bus is concerned, I'm starting to think it drives you to the next Chance/Community Chest space (after you've made your white dice move). Either that or you get to move forward on the same side of the board, like an immediate-use bus ticket. Both are wild-ass but educated guesses. :D

In fact, I finally got a look at a copy of the Speed Die rules recently, which summarize as follows:

1. The Speed Die is not used by a player until they complete their first trip around the board (by passing GO). Once a player passes GO for the first time, they then roll all 3 dice.

2. Rolling Mr. Monopoly works just as in MEGA MONOPOLY (move to the next unowned property OR the next one on which you'd owe rent).

3. Rolling the Bus allows for a new rule: "Getting Off The Bus Early". This lets you choose from taking either the full move roll on the 2 regular dice OR just using ONE die's roll to move. (Example: You roll 1-5-BUS. You could move the full 6 spaces, or choose to move only 1 space OR five spaces.)

That's it.

Thanks for the info! One more question: If you roll triples, do you still get to move anywhere on the board?

Yes, that rule is the same as well. And--like the revised MM rules--you do NOT get another roll after rolling triples, nor does rolling triples after two doubles send you to Jail.

I recently re-read the new rules (only got to skim them last time) and there are a few other extra rules for using the Speed Die with regular MONOPOLY:

(1) Players start with $2500 instead of $1500 (again, just like MEGA).

(2) When landing on a Utility, use ALL 3 DICE to determine how much to pay the Owner, with the MR. MONOPOLY and BUS on the Speed Die counting as zero (0).

_NJR_ Enjoy!
