Okay, so my wife and I are arguing this point.

With the speed die, if you get the mr. monopoly icon, you go your regular number of spaces, and then...

either one, if there are properties left to buy, go to the next available one and buy or have it auctioned...

or two, if there are no properties (and I quote the rule exactly out of the rulebook) you "Advance to the NEXT property on which you will owe another player money."

So, here's the argument... I own the reading railroad and oriental ave. therefore, if she is coming around the corner, with mr. monopoly, she would have to move to my next property, reading railroad, and pay me rent. Now I say if I mortgage reading railroad, then i still own the property, however it is not a property that she would have to owe me money on. Therefore, she will NOT owe me money there and she must go to oriental, the next property I own and conveniently have three houses on.

She says since she "could" owe me money there if it's not mortgaged, then she does not have to go to oriental. Any opinions or official rulings you know about?

Because Reading is mortgaged, she DOES NOT owe rent there. Therefore, she skips over it to Oriental, and pays the rent. If, however, ALL of your properties were mortgaged, then she would stay where she is.

About the only question I have is this: I have MEGA MONOPOLY (I was one of the participants in the recent MM Tourney in Atlantic City, NJ) and don't feel like paying to get the new "Speed Die" edition of regular Monopoly. I see from the older postings here that the Mr. Monopoly is being handled more-or-less the same as in MM, but how is the Bus side being used, seeing as how there are no Bus Ticket cards in the orig. game?

With Mr. Monopoly, you move forward to the next space where you will pay rent. This means mortgaged properties are skipped. The current rules for Mega Monopoly at Winning Moves Games are pretty clear on this point. But remember that you can't do anything between a player's white-dice move and their Mr. Monopoly move, so you can't let your wife throw the dice, and then decide to mortgage something before she gets to it.

As far as the Bus is concerned, I'm starting to think it drives you to the next Chance/Community Chest space (after you've made your white dice move). Either that or you get to move forward on the same side of the board, like an immediate-use bus ticket. Both are wild-ass but educated guesses.

In fact, I finally got a look at a copy of the Speed Die rules recently, which summarize as follows:

1. The Speed Die is not used by a player until they complete their first trip around the board (by passing GO). Once a player passes GO for the first time, they then roll all 3 dice.

2. Rolling Mr. Monopoly works just as in MEGA MONOPOLY (move to the next unowned property OR the next one on which you'd owe rent).

3. Rolling the Bus allows for a new rule: "Getting Off The Bus Early". This lets you choose from taking either the full move roll on the 2 regular dice OR just using ONE die's roll to move. (Example: You roll 1-5-BUS. You could move the full 6 spaces, or choose to move only 1 space OR five spaces.)

That's it.

Thanks for the info! One more question: If you roll triples, do you still get to move anywhere on the board?

Yes, that rule is the same as well. And--like the revised MM rules--you do NOT get another roll after rolling triples, nor does rolling triples after two doubles send you to Jail.

I recently re-read the new rules (only got to skim them last time) and there are a few other extra rules for using the Speed Die with regular MONOPOLY:

(1) Players start with $2500 instead of $1500 (again, just like MEGA).

(2) When landing on a Utility, use ALL 3 DICE to determine how much to pay the Owner, with the MR. MONOPOLY and BUS on the Speed Die counting as zero (0).

_NJR_ Enjoy!

I have a question about the speed die game. When you roll doubles in the original game you roll again. Well, speed die has a rule where if you roll triples you go anywhere on the board. Is that roll also considered rolling doubles to roll again? Even though you rolled triples? It is still considered a doubles roll right?
Thanks

As I ALREADY answered above: A Triples roll DOES NOT count toward rolling doubles, nor does it give you an additional roll. (On the plus side, rolling Triples after two Doubles will NOT send you to Jail.)

Hi Nicholas,

Just found the site and the Speed Die info..great. Two Questions:
1. Do you know of any sites that discuss strategy for the game? How about stats on landing on spaces ect?

2. How about any pc based games that allow or use speed die?

3. I just qualified for the nationals in DC and need to get some strategy going, how about some coaching?

Thanks

That's FIVE---[Three, Sir!]---er, THREE questions, Peter. But to answer them the best I can:

(1) I haven't yet found any sites discussing the altered strategies for MEGA, but I'm sure SOMEBODY will figure it out soon.

(2) As far as I know, no one has adapted MEGA into a 'Net or PC version, nor has anyone added the Speed Die to an existing version. (The only OFFICIAL Monopoly game is the HERE & NOW WORLD Version on POGO.COM, and it doesn't use it.)

(3) From playing in and observing the MEGA tourney, I'd say the strategies that work in regular MONOPOLY work ALMOST as well here. (I say ALMOST, as the winner of the tourney beat the then-reigning regular MONOPOLY Champ at the game). But the basics still work: buy quickly, but with an eye for collecting buildable color-groups, and build on them ASAP. With MEGA, this is complicated a BIT with the ability to (a) build if you have a MAJORITY ownership, (b) build SKYSCRAPERS with a full ownership, and (c) build depots on the Railroads (which I suggest doing as soon as they're purchased; thankfully, you don't need majority ownership of the RRs for depots). But otherwise, all I can say is HAVE FUN!

_NJR_ Hope this helps!

I beg to differ. I have 2 editions of the standard game for the PC sitting on my shelf next to each other (1999 & 2002), both published by Infogrames, both are official and both are in 3D. The default board is British (but can be changed in the options). Also, there is a 2D version of the standard game over at Real Arcade called "Monopoly by Parker Brothers" which again is an official game. Real Arcade also have one of the two 3D games I just mentioned, as well as the "Here and Now" version. None of these use the speed die.

[EDIT] Just remembered I have ANOTHER official PC release for Windows, published by Westwood Studios, dated 1995.
