SIX new Age of Steam Maps!
On Monday, Bezier Games announced SIX new maps for Age of Steam in three brand new expansions, all of which are compatible with both classic (2nd Edition) Age of Steam as well as the new upcoming Mayfair Age of Steam. All six maps were designed by Ted Alspach, designer of 1830's Pennsylvania, Northern California, Disco Inferno, Soul Train, Mississippi Steamboats and Golden Spike. Pre-orders are being taken now for the complete set of six maps: see http://games.bezier.com for details on ordering.

Age of Steam Expansion: America / Europe
These mounted (just like the map that comes in Age of Steam) double-sided maps provide 3-6 players the full Age of Steam experience on a scale that has never been attempted before in an Age of Steam game. With just enough unique twists on standard Age of Steam to keep each map fresh, you'll find yourself in enticingly new challenging situations. Both maps' changes are primarily focused on goods delivery; in America, the low availability of goods and high demand, coupled with your limitation of delivering only one good per turn make every delivery a gut-wrenching decision. In Europe, cubes only enter the map when a player chooses the Production action...and then that player places only the cubes they want to place directly on the cities that benefit them the most. You can view full details on these two maps now at http://games.bezier.com/aosamericaeurope.html

Age of Steam Expansion: Barbados / St. Lucia

These new lightweight double-sided maps (printed on durable bright cardstock, trimmed to fit in your Age of Steam box) are for 1 and 2 players. You can view details on these maps at http://games.bezier.com/aosbarbadosstlucia.html

Age of Steam Expansion: Jamaica / Puerto Rico

These new lightweight double-sided maps (printed on durable bright cardstock, trimmed to fit in your Age of Steam box) are also for 1 and 2 players. You can view details on these two maps at http://games.bezier.com/aosjamaicapuertorico.html

BoardgameNews.com is running a series of previews on all six maps this week, and the previews are also included in the 2007 Essen Preview ( http://www.boardgamenews.com/index.php/boardgamenews/C100/#b...).

If they work with 2nd edition AoS they'll work with 1st. Certainly the three maps listed above that I've played should all work fine with both editions. The few rules changes between 1st and 2nd edition are all quite minor.

There are no rules changes between 1st and 2nd edition Age of Steam. Typos were fixed and one rule *added*, the ability to directly place Complex Track. For details:

So, what's with the cross pairing of the single and two-player map sets? Wouldn't it make more sense to offer single player sets and two-player sets instead of pawning the single player toys off on people interested in two-player maps? Seems a very artificial grouping.

Too bad, I could use a couple more nice two-player options to help get people experience for the real game.
