Welcome to the BGG 2007 Rugby World Cup Contest!
There are 10 days till the third largest sporting event will be yet again causing bleary eyes and broken hearts. The IRB Rugby World Cup France 2007! And of course we all know who's going to win! No? Time to predict the World Cup!
First and for all: it's FUN! That's the most important rule to remember, so no fighting!
I'm keeping it simple (but will create a more complex one for the die hards-look out for it in chit chat), so you won't be studying on Rugby for hours. Here's the contest:
********************************************************
Tip at least 1 GG per category (you can choose if you enter 1 or 2 both categories) and put your answers in this thread. I'll put up my own prediction as well, so you'll have an example.
Category 1: Group Phase
For each group put the teams in order of how they will finish at the end of the round robin phases. (20 answers) Bonus points will occur as follows
+1 for the top 2 in order +2 for the top 3 in order +4 for all in order
Bonus points will be given for each group
Category 2: Finals
Who will play the semifinals, the final and will be world champion? (7 answers)
TiebreakerQuestion:
How many tries will be scored in the round robin section of the tournament?
********************************************************
Rules
1. At least Tip 1 GG per category.
2. Post your prediction in THIS THREAD. That way everyone knows things are running fair. You can always look up all the predictions (and correct me if I'm making mistakes).
3. Contest entries are allowed until 24 hours before the opening match; France - Argentina - Sept 7, 2007; 21:00 France time.
4. Ties are broken by the tiebreaker question. If there is still a tie, I'll draw a winner randomly for 1st place (and if it happens that I'm in the running for winning, I won't be in the random drawing). If there is still a tie for 2nd and 3rd, the GG will be split!
5. You can only win 1st place once! You can win 2nd and 3rd more than once.
6. Winner of a category will win 50% of the total GG in this category, number 2 will receive 30% of the total GG in this category, and number 3 will receive 20% of the total GG in this category. Note as I cannot give GG to myself I am on the record to say I will donate 10 GG to each category
7. Any rules I have overlooked or forgot can be added or changed at all times but at my discretion.
8. If something isn't clear please tell me and I'll edit & add.
9. 5GG to be awarded to an entrant, randomly selected by me.
********************************************************
More World Cup info in the next message.
Special thanks to Basl for his 2006 world cup thread that I have butchered
Edits: First 4 for spelling, grammer. 5th edit to change bonus points

This was the same problem that occurred during the Football World Cup. As I'm asking for a minimum 1 tip for each category it's not that onerous to
a) Upload a couple of photos b) writing a review or session report or two c) begging seems to work for some. d) geekmodding-we had a fellow in our EPL fantasy league geekmod the 5 GG entry fee.

Here are what will be the actual results (I have read the entrails) Group A: South Africa, England, Samoa, Tonga, USA Group B: Australia, Wales, Fiji, Japan, Canada Group C: NZ, Italy, Scotland, Portugal, Romania Group D: France, Ireland, Argentina, Georgia, Namibia
Semi Finalists: South Africa, Australia, NZ, France Finalists: Australia, France World Champion: Australia
# Tries scored in round robin: 287.
-- Some similarities to the other predictions here, but my gut (and the slaughtered pig's) both tell me that Australia is peaking at the right time... Total tries will be down slightly because the minnow teams will have become more competitive in the last few years (BTW; how do you get 0.65 of a try??)
Thanks for running the comp, Neil. I look forward to winning that GG almost as much as I look forward to George Gregan holding up the cup on Oct 20.

Aren't these the same thing? Hehehe, good observation! It would be quite difficult to get the top 4 and not get the fifth entry in a group.

Re: < 1 week to Win GG-BGG 2007 Rugby World Cup Tipping Comp
Less than 1 week to go so get your tips in quickly. Don't let this opportunity pass you by.
If we get 20 tippers we might actually get a prize to give away. So if you haven't tipped, 'ave a go and if you have, refer your mates.
The bigger the pool the bigger the pull.
