I haven't been this excited upon walking into my FLGS in a very long time. As I walked in the owner looks at me and says "Hey - Do you like Halo?"

My reply:

"You better believe I do"

I am so stoked.

So i grabbed 6 boosters (3 for myself and 3 for a friend who was at work)with the intent to get the Hunter Pack next week.

I think I got some pretty awesome pulls from my 3 boosters:

2 Super Rares:

Sesa 'Refumee (Dual Plasma Rifles)
Arbiter w/ Active Camo (Covenant Carbine)

3 Rares:

Master Chief (Spartan Laser)
Arbiter (Dual Needlers)
Brute Jump Pack (Spiker Rifle)

5 Uncommons:

Elite (Covenant Carbine)
Elite Ranger (Dual Plasma Rifles)
(Red) Spartan (M90 Shotgun)
(Blue) Spartan (M90 Shotgun)
(Blue) Spartan (Covenant Carbine)

5 Commons:

Marine (BR55 Battle Rifle)
(Red) Spartan (BR55 Battle Rifle)
(Red) Spartan (Dual M6C Magnum Pistols)
(Red) Spartan (Dual M7/Caseless SMG)
Major Elite (Plasma Rifle)

I'm pretty happy with what i got so far. I'll be playing a game later tonight so i'll definitely be throwing up some pics tonight! Probably will post some impressions too. I can't wait to see what figs are in my friends boosters.

People like you explain why we have these awful collectible games that the rest of us all hate.

Hmm? I endorse all of these sentiments too.

People don't hate collectible games. If they did, they wouldn't make them. People actually love them to death. However, if you've blown a lot of your money on them, I can understand your sour feelings.

Some people do hate collectible games, others like them. The people who like them tend to spend a lot of money on them, therefore they are more profitable even though they appeal to only a subset of the gaming public. But this has the downside (from my point of view) that they drive out other sorts of games, that can't generate the same economic returns for publishers.

But this is pretty well-worn ground on BGG, so I'm not sure it's worth recapitulating here.

I've never spent a dime on any collectible game. Not a matter of principle, I've just never been interested. But, as my kids get older, I might buy some, to play with them.

If you agreed with his sentiments posted above, and didn't feel like restarting an argument, why post a pretty obviously slight towards the original poster about his taste in collectable games? I don't mind people disliking Collectable games, but why come to someone elses post and bash them, like many BGG posters tend to like to do, and what you don't seem to oppose? I don't remember seeing a group of roving Clix players running around posting how much Catan or Caylus is stupid in a geeklist or review.

Trolling is a cornerstone of the internet! Without it the internet just wouldn't be any fun. How else could we argue about such pointless thing as what genre a game actually is - or whether or not certain mechanics are inherently good or bad and other things that border on asinine? I mean how else are you going to post multiple times in a thread without actually contributing a single ounce of information to it? Gotta love trolls.

My friend, btw, isn't in to much boardgaming - that is to say he will play boardgames with me (including Descent, Nexus Ops, Axis and Allies miniatures, Apples to Apples, and we've got him to play some stuff like Axis & Allies (board game not minis) and Victory: The Blocks of War) but he was pretty excited upon opening his Halo ActionClix boosters. It was cool to see him excited about just one little subset of boardgaming and actually happy to spend some cash on it. He told me he was going to buy some more boosters tommorrow

I didn't get to play a game tonight, unfortunately, as my friend was pretty tired after work, and so was I. We just hung out, ate dinner, and discussed our plans for Halo 3.

Same here, my brother is a boardgamer, and I can surprisingly get a few games of Railroad Tycoon and probably A&A if I could secure a copy cheap, but no really good wargames, but we all grew up with CCGs and we enjoy CMGs alot, and since we are also videogame fans this appeals to all my friends.

Finding opponents is the only way to enjoy a game, a game can be as good as its ratings say, but if you can't find people to play, you can't have fun with it.

Hopefully you get a chance to play, my brother and I got a couple games in from our Hunter pack+7 booster haul (haven't used the Warthog yet) and it was pretty fun. Watch out for the "first player" syndrome where they may get to surround your spawn points quickly. Spread those out.

Wow. That has to be the rudest second post to a new game that I've read ever, or at least in a long while. Clearly you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, David, if you feel you had to piss all over the OP's enthusiasm. Collectable games are fun, and your opinion is fair game for another thread, but what's up with posting your downer here? Glad to see the OP wasn't too put off 'bout it though. I do love my euros, but am stoked my euro-playing group this week is up for some 2-player bloodshed. I'm bringin' this one for sure.

The upside to this, though, is that collectible games have kept the lights on for many a brick and mortar game store. I would bet, without any supporting data mind you, that collectible games have "gatewayed" many younger players into the boardgaming hobby.

Yo. Played MTG (pokemon earlier) for years and years, found BGG through a google search about that game, and voila.

Don't confuse that with "seeing the light" or some bullshit I see spewed on BGG, however. If you want to play casually , you can control your spending in a collectable game and have a great time. Its not "Part of a game". If you want to play a competitive level, tournaments and the like, the "money issue" equals itself out; everyone has the same resources, because anyone taking it serious enough for real tournament play is building good builds of good decks/teams/what have you, and play comes down to who plays the tightest, who has the best matchups, and who plays best in their bad matchups. The money invested equals out if you really want to be a good player, and you practice at it.

Either way, no matter what CCX you play, no matter how you play it, there really isn't any reason to complain, as its easy to remedy the problems, because most of them are caused by the player, not the game.
