Hi Everyone! My name is John and I'm new to the geek, as well as gaming:D About eight months ago a friend of mine introduced me to the game The Settlers of Catan. Immediately I became obsessed with it. I started playing it all the time and got several friends interested in it as well. We started playing games a couple nights a month and we all look forward to playing whenever we can.

I am also an actor, writer, and a comedian. My experience playing Catan inspired me to do a video using the game as the main theme. I am calling the project "The Settler from Catan." It is about a man named Johan who travels to New York as an ambassador from the island of Catan(which I claim exists off the coast of Germany). His main mission is "To trade with people" and he is sort of a Catan superhero as well.

I plan on releasing the short film in three or four parts. Right now there is a trailer for the project posted up on Youtube. Here is the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5UT-9v3K3w

Please give the trailer a look and subscribe to the channel if you like. I will be posting the official episodes beginning this month. It took a lot of guts to walk around Times Square in that costume, so I hope you all enjoy!

I would love to know your thoughts about the project. And, please pass the video onto your friends if you like it. Thanks!

Also can anyone recommend any other games for my game night? I have tried Carcasonne, Shadows of Camelot, and some others. Anything like these games would be great to know about.

Welcome to BGG John! Looking forward to the rest of the videos :)

I wish I'd seen you around Times Square, heh! Your profile says California, but if you're in New York, you should come by either or both of the clubs listed in the New York guild ( http://www.boardgamegeek.com/guild/175) to try out other games like Settlers and Carcassonne.

I'll admit it... I don't understand the joke.

Why the pseudo super hero get-up? What does that have to do with Catan?
Is it supposed to be another in the interminable line of "zany for zany's sake" humor pieces the kids are all into now days? Or is there some popular reference between super heros and SoC that I didn't get the memo on?

Sorry to sound negative. I'd honestly love to be in on the joke, if there is one, but crazy mashups of crazy things because it's so crazy! look how crazy we are!!!!!! is wearing thin for me as a delivery device for humor.

If someone could explain its appeal beyond that premise I'd appreciate it.

Edit: removed superfluous apostrophe

I guess you haven't watched Borat?

Well done John.

"I've got good brick here. Would you like to touch it? It is really good. It's my favourite brick."

I laughed my ass of at that line. Also like the posing in the window, the walking around would wood and wheat and... well done!

Well, Nazhuret, there's this game called The Settlers of Catan. Its a board game. I know what you're thinking, but no, this is not like monopoly. The game is about trading. You trade for goods, goods like wheat and brick and, yep you guessed it, sheep. You would probably like it. If you're interested, there is this site called Board Game Geek...

Wow.
Good one.

You failed to explain where the super hero comes into it though.

Times Square - That's tough. Only saving grace is all the other zany folk around there.

Good work. Keep it up!

That was a nice video and all, and it did get my thumbs-up, but I think Nazhuret is kind of right, it doesn't have any laughs aside from the guy dressed like that in the middle of the street (even though there are no super-heroes in Catan).

And no "wood for sheep" reference? :shake:

It did get my thumbs-up, though, for the effort (and a very good effort, the video is very well produced).

Yea, like The Three Stooges, Jerry Lewis, Jonathan Winters, Woody Allen, Steve Martin...

I thought the video was promising and it made me smile. But it's a teaser, right? Supposed to get me interested in the real deal. And it certainly succeeded there. Looking forward to it.

What I really liked was the music. What/Who is it?

Please release the final version somewhere other than YouTube - it was like watching stop motion and quite frustrating.

I'm certainly looking forward to the final version, though.

Great video!

Have you tried the other Catan series? There is also a supplement that came out with a bunch of scenarios and carboard pieces to play those scenarios.

I'd also love to have seen one of those New Yorkers (or tourists) get the joke.

Recommendation:
If it's trading that floats your boat, check out Bohnanza. However, I must say Bohnanza would lend itself more to a literary adaptation a la Steinbeck -- "The Beans of Wrath".

Yep,

I'm with you on this one. For me, it falls into the category of something way more creative than I could do, but that still doesn't make it any good.

I too have no idea where the superhero thing comes from, and didn't get the joke. And I have seen Borat, and this is no Borat :p .
