Correction: I covered the sailing over the limit penalty incorrectly. The correct way to calculate the penalty is below and also discussed here:

Great review as always. I actually already had this on my wish list and I am really glad to see this isn't a war game with a viking theme.

excellent video review once again.

i don't have the rules with me but i believe you cannot draw a rune card while in the wintering box, they can only be drawn when in the home ports.

this is a great game and i'm glad you emphasised at the conclusion of the video how much of a role loading your longboats takes in the game.

Thanks guys and thanks Greg. I will double check that rule and get it posted as a correction. Just for my own better understanding of the game how does that effect gameplay not being able to draw cards from the winterbox?

the home ports are the only place on the board where you cannot play a rune card. i figure that the designers restricted the players to gathering rune cards in the only place that they cannot subsequently play them to keep the integrity of the max hand limit of 3. if you can play a card in the same location you draw it then the hand limit of 3 is meaningless and a player could draw a card then play it 7 times.

mind you, reasonable players wouldn't look for an exploit like that, there would be a slapping if someone tried that in my group. your mate john looks shifty enough to try it though.;)

That makes sense. yeah I definitely know a couple people who would take advantage of that.

It also matters because a player must decide out to outfit their ship-how many men, how many trade goods, what goods,- before drawing up rune cards.

Which I interpret to mean they want you to draw
goods/crew, SELECT a mission by selecting the homeport, THEN get the
rune cards which may help you.

Great review!
Its really cool with a game where my old home country plays a huge part for once!
One thing i noticed though was when you exlained the rules for loosing men when you travel. You mention in the video that if you sail for 7 days in the western ocean, that has 5 clear days, you loose 2 men.(1 for each day that passes over the clear 5 ones)
I think this is wrong however.
I think it works like this:
If you sail 7 days in the western ocean, at the end of the journey yo see how many days you went over(in this case 2) and remove the amount of men stated. (in this case 1)
If you sail in the eastern ocean,(that has 4 days clear weather)from sweden, and you stop in rostov you have broken the limit by one, wich results in 1 loss. you trade in rostov and then continue moving to bulgar, wich makes the whole journey 7 days long. this means that you have broken the limit by three days total, wich should mean according to the loss chart that you loose 2 men total. since you already lost 1 man before, you only remove 1 man when you arrive at bulgar. you could have stayed in rostov and only loose 1 man. but you continued on the journey and that is when you loos one more because the TOTAL of days over the clear ones is then tree. and that says you loose a total of 2 men.

This is how i read the rules anyway. In your case your men would die like flies everytime you went sailing. :)
But please correct me if im wrong.
