Hi, my name's Gerald, and I'd like to invite all of you to the opening of Game Crab Boardgame Cafe (target date is middle of April), located at the 2nd floor of FBR Building, Loyola Heights, Katipunan, Quezon City (above Yellow Cab -- across Ateneo).

Game Crab is patterned from the likes of Mind Cafe, Settlers, etc., from Germany, Korea, Japan and Singapore. We carry boardgames like World of Warcraft, Cashflow, Descent, Cranium, Zertz, Settlers of Catan, Quiddler, Scrabble and MORE (as we continually try to update our boardgame base with the latest, craziest, zaniest, queerest, rarest and best games)! We try to ensure that we are able to cater to young adults, families, casual gamers and hardcore gamers alike!

We'll also be hosting monthly tournaments and weekly night of champions. And we'll be serving great tasting yet affordable meals as well! So please come visit us as we look to further expand the horizons of boardgaming here in the Philippines!

1st BGame cafe in the Philippines.
I've been away from the Philippines from 1995-2005,
so was kinda dismayed that there wasn't any BG cafes when I returned that time.
cry
Just wanna confirm w/ ppl (who knows) here if Game Crab is the FIRST ever BG cafe that existed in the country (or Manila for that matter).

Much obliged.

I feel like gamecrab did not make it and may be closed.

There are a lot more cafes now. Ludo and Puzzles may be some of the better ones?

Yes. Gamecrab closed long ago. IIRC Raiyfe mentioned something about not wanting to renew his lease as the building he was in wanted him to transfer to another floor, despite paying for the area's renovations (I suppose you can just ask him directly). And yes, Gamecrab was technically the first boardgame cafe in the Philippines. There's a lot that have sprung up as of late though.

Puzzles

...and it hasn't even been a month since my post and we already have 2 new players entering the field:

Gameover
31 Xavierville Ave, Loyola Heights, Quezon City

Playground Hobby Cafe
Asuncion street corner EDSA and Morning Breeze Street, Barangay 84, Caloocan City; along EDSA near MCU Hospital and Monumento (same building as KFC, Mang inasal and Greenwhich)

Playground is of particular surprise considering the income bracket (Sorry. I couldn't think of a more apt word or term) or demographic of the area its located in. Here's hoping they can channel an untapped market.

Edit:
GuildHouse
SP & A Bldg Xavierville Avenue, corner Jocson St., Loyola Heights Quezon City

Thanks for the list, Albert. I'll be hanging out in Imus, Cavite for two weeks starting next week and already had plans to go to Ludo after seeing that previously recommended on this sub-forum and hearing about it elsewhere. i just saw Archivald's thread about PlayGround too. It looks like I've got quite a bit of good options for good food and games.

Albert, since you were providing info recently, I'll ask you here: Is there anywhere good to play X-Wing in Metro Manila or Makati, especially somewhere that would have ships I could use, since I can't bring my collection? I've got a tournament I'll be participating in when I return to the US and don't wanna go two weeks without playing before the event.
And another more specific question: Do you know if Ludo has any diet drinks? I saw on their website's menu that they carry IBC Root Beer but saw no mention of diet.

Though I'm unfortunately not aware of Ludo's drink menu save for the fact that I know they've got a great selection for beer, your best bets for X-Wing matches are:

1) Firesword
2) the newly opened Gears and Games, 81 Xavier Street, 81 Xavier Residences, San Juan
3) and, the Appraisery as a distant third.

Though people tend to bring their own ships, I'm sure the players and owners will be more than willing to lend ships so that you can get some practice games in.

And while I'm at it, aside from Gears and Games, Tabletaft Boardgame Cafe is another new player, with address at 2nd floor, University Mall, Taft Avenue, Manila.

Thanks for the reply! I'll definintly hit all three of those places up. I figured it was a longshot if I would be able to find some ships to use, but when I started buying X-Wing, no one I knew wanted to play so I had to buy ships from both factions so I could supply enough for two players to play. I figure there has got to be someone someone in a similar situation there.
Thanks again though, I appreciate it.

Another store? Man, the cats in QC sure are lucky. After being here in the PI for a week, I've pretty much all but decided that QC is too far to go to just for me to go to one place that no one else has any interest in. We did go to Captain's Sweet Galley of Treats in Dasmarinas today since we over that way. The deserts were fantastic and the games of Sushi Go and Jenga that we played were fun. I hope to stop in one more time before flying back home.
