link to story on ICv2...

"Fantasy Flight Games has announced an October release for the Revised 4th Edition of the Talisman Board Game (MSRP $49.95). 2008 marks the 25th anniversary of this fan favorite magical quest board game and FFG’s revised version adds 14 highly detailed plastic figures (toads included), a revision of the rules, and upgraded components all around. Upon the launch of the Revised 4th Edition, FFG will also make available an upgrade kit, which will include the new plastic figures, revised rules and cards, for those who purchased Games Workshop’s 4th Edition of Talisman, which was released in October of 2007..."

It looks like good news to me.

Good news indeed! Especially the "upgrade kit" for everyone who already purchased 4th edition.

Thank you for the info and link.

How many other companies would provide an upgrade kit for early adopters? Lemme think... None...

Well done FFG!!! This is why the gaming community should support this company.

Customer service and realistic support generates tremendous goodwill and increased sales in return. Every games publisher around the world could learn a few things from FFG.

I cancelled my order for 4th Ed Talisman when the problems became evident from reviews and comments here at BGG. I will cheerfully pony up for the revised game when it becomes available.

Great news. I held off buying 4th edition too after hearing all the negative feedback. Sounds like FFG is going to make the version we all wanted in the first place!

Go Go FFG!

I've always felt there was potential for the game.

The components are nice, but the 4th edition is still a bland luckfest.
Playing it brought back that same feeling I had in the 80s. If the upgrade can fix this dog, I'm all in.

In all fairness… Lookout Games (German) are producing an upgrade kit for Agricola. Not that it has much to do with Talisman, but still!

they are not changing the game itself just fixing some glaring typos in the rules and providing the better quality components that will come in 4.5 for those that have 4.0

Still gonna be the same ol great classic game.

Talisman is what it is and if a roll and move "dicefest" isn't your style of game that don't bother with this. I traded my 3rd edition away once I got the 4th due to the fact that I really wanted 2nd edition and this is as close as I can get in a reasonable amount of money. Hell for the most part Black Industries just cut and pasted the 2nd edition game with better images.

I for one can't wait for the upgrade kit and the expansions (of which I will buy every one!!)

Hands down FFG is the BEST game company there is for my money. bag

Definitely FFG is the coolest gaming company. The upgrade kits shows you that. For somebody outside US to buy again the game would be completely crazy as the shipping costs made that game cost double. So thanks FFG !! From Argentina we salute you.

Well, since FFG bought Black Industries, I'd say it's in their interest to keep original 4th Ed owners happy.

I hope shipping the kit outside the US won't be too expensive!

I'm really happy of the upgrade kit, as I bought the 4th edition. Nonetheless, I think I would HATE a "different" Talisman. I really love Talisman for what it is... roll the dice, move, kill, gain gold, roll again, move, kill... and a LOT OF CARDS!!!

Talisman is what it is ... a dice-fest/card-fest

Mess with that and it becomes a different game.

Having played my 2nd edition just recently for the first time since quitting my addiction in the late 80's I was pleasantly surprised to find a really enjoyable roll and move game, which was made by the company in which it was played.

Now FFG hold the reins I am looking forward to the origin expansion and beyond. FFG has a good track record of resurrecting older games in a sympathetic manner.

Bring it on!

I'm selling my 4th edition box as hopefully FFG will fix the mistakes on the boards/character cards etc that somehow got past the playtesters in the GW edition.

Also looking forward to seeing what they do with the expansions...hopefully something new as Talisman needs refreshment.

This is great news. I will absolutely buy the upgrade when released. But I'm sure I'll also buy a new copy altogether when it comes out.

I love the fact there will be minis. That was my only problem with 4th ed.

as far as keeping my Black Industries copy? Its part of Talisman history man! How could I part with it?

Am I the only one who digs the retro cardboard cut out characters? a) FFG miniatures are rubbish compared to GW's, and b) even GW's miniatures only look good if well painted - requires skill, patience and time. I'd rather spend my time playing a game.

I'm hoping that FFG will at some point do a "Warrior Knights - Crown and Glory" style expansion which "patches" the initial game, i.e. addresses its widely held shortcomings. There's bags of potential in there.

Cardboard characters are only OK if they don't fall out of the stands...:yuk: I remember not so fondly picking up my 2nd Ed. pieces, then picking up the stand every time I moved.

While I own a few FFG games now, I don't have any 'miniature heavy' games like Doom, Descent, or War of the Ring. I have found the miniatures in Fury of Dracula, and Marvel Heroes to be of excellent quality (although the paint on MH is laid on a bit thick).

I have some plastic miniatures from GW product lines over the years and FFG certainly stands up in quality to any of their releases, even recent ones like The Mines of Moria set for example.

As far as 'patching' the rules, I think that aside from producing an error free rulebook, the rules should be left as they are. Talisman 'is what it is' as 'lordunborn' said earlier in this thread. If you aren't comfortable with aspects of the game, then house-rule to your hearts content.

FFG miniatures are top notch. Definitely an addition to the game. Personally I do not understand the people that stays in the past on games like this one. Come on, evolve with the time and let FFG make a cool game where an old roll-and-move game used to be. Talisman has the potential for fun but some extra strategy options surely wouldn't be bad at all.

I have TI3 and WK. The miniatures are poorly molded from very soft plastic which deforms too easily, however, they are colourful and identifiable and as such eminently "fit for purpose".

I also have FoD as of about a week ago, the plastic is harder but still of very basic detail. Worst of all is that they're all grey, making quick analysis of the board very difficult. I suspect they were meant to be painted, but I also suspect only 1% of owners/players will bother to do so.

The miniatures in Talisman 3rd Ed were, in stark contrast, utterly exquisite. That's no exaggeration. For all that game's shortcomings, the mini's were impeccable. For anyone who thinks that FFG mini's are the equal of GW's, then on the basis of TI3, WK and FoD I must strongly, strongly disagree.

The bottom line is that I think the colourful cardboard characters look better than the badly moulded, grey FFG miniatures as demonstrated by Fury of Dracula.

Don't get me wrong, I think GW is inferior to FFG in every department save the quality of the miniatures.

In terms of rules "patches" I am hoping for, FFG's style is usually to present a rules "menu" from which you can pick and choose according to your taste. I'm happy to pay them the £15 or so to do all the playtesting and creative game-balancing innovation. In my experience they're very good at it. I have little enough time to play games as it is without tedious trial and error of my own half-baked variant rules.

I've been waiting for news on this for awhile. I'm glad there's an upgrade kit, but know one here seems to be mentioning the first Expansion coming in Chistmas, Death and Glory Expansion (MSRP $19.95), know i really can't wait to get my hands on that!

I too loved the miniatures in 3rd edition and had a great time painting them up. I've never bought a FFG game " this will be the first ". I hope the mini's are not that less quality as I'll lay into painting them up as well. I made my own board so would not really care if they fixed the other one. IMO the 4th ed board " even w/typo's was hands down the best. Tell you the truth though on my huge 3d board it can be a slight struggle to find a miniature so I was considering using those huge cardboard counters. The slipping off can be easily cured by a small piece of paper or tissue:what: LOL... everyone knows that:cool: Here is a picture of my fav character.

I like the cardboard characters quite a bit and prefer them over minis. I like this kind of art, which is nicely done.
