I bow my head in shame that I've heard that line coming out of my mouth.
My name is Simon and I'm a whiner.

That's how you're supposed to start your rehabilitation program, right? By admitting it to yourself. Well, I did that years ago. Slowly improving. I got ultra-bashed in Settlers the other day and I smiled my way through it.

I prefer the passive-aggressive approach:

"Is there something going on, literally under the table, between you and (name of person in the lead), that the rest of us guys just don't want to see or know about?"

Sounds of denial.

"Oh, okay. Just checking."

It's not whining -- it's politics.

I have a feeling that little girl is winning, probably by a large margin.

That really captures the essence.

eheheh thumbs up!

There's one friend of mine from that does exactly that. It's either that or "you've just stolen my move", after every single player that plays before him does his move.

We call him "cry baby".

He is however tremendous fun to play with and guess whom i choose to pick on during games...

Take off the last two lines and this sounds like my usual game night dialogue. Except we're laughing about it, not complaining.

When I play Settlers and Seafarers online, concerning hostilities that you'd find ingame, I usually get whining and bitching. If I had time to explain (need to type out explanation and some games are fast-paced), I'd tell them u and another guy are about even and I had to make a judgement call. More often than not, the person who whines ends up winning... sometimes by a longshot.

This also got me to take such similar situations in perspective

Uh... excuse me? I saw your real picture on that one geeklist. We'd let you whine all you wanted to dahling! Not that we'd actually let you win... but you could whine to your heart's content.

Reminds me of poker (especially online, but I've seen it in person as well):

angry "This sucks. I lost because you made a stupid call."

wow "I took a risk, and I won the hand."

angry "But only a moron would make that play. What were you thinking calling with that? What an idiot! I lost because you are stupid and got lucky."

wow "Isn't that why it's called gambling?"

Guilty.

Worst case, and the only one I'll claim was justified, was a game of Settlers. I had drawn maybe 4 common resources in about 6 laps around the table. I was doing my best to trade, and getting nothing while two other players (one new) were making the same trades, and throwing in extras, with the first-place-by-a-lot fourth player. Soon, the winning player, who already had the longest road by several pieces, looped me into a corner so that I could literally not build anything. I had to concede and walk away to resist the urge to strangle someone.

what guys like your opponent often don't get is that the point of poker is not to win the hand, it is to put yourself in a position of positive expectation. if that guy really put you in a position where you called with the worst hand or with a draw when you didn't have pot odds, then he should be winning more often than not and wouldn't really have all that much to complain about.

more likely guys like that never bet enough for you to really make an unprofitable call - or they slowplay and let you catch up and then they bet when it's too late. i wouldn't bother defending yourself against his tirades. play him another few hands. in addition to being stupid, he's now also on tilt.

Yeah, scary what pops into my head sometimes... I am glad you found it funny!

However, for the record ('cause you just can't be too careful these days) I am not trying to suggest that anybody's kid is ugly here. I think she is cute. A little pouty, but cute.

I am simply making a joke. I am a Geek and this is a Joke. A Geek Joke...

However, as for stormseeker, I do not find him/her pretty...
