Yikes,
My poor FLGS too! Hope Jared was able to get most of his inventory out before this happened. At least they were given a head's up a couple days before it got this bad.

It sounds like they did, but those poor chairs left behind were pretty comfy.

I hope that Jerod and Gigi's house is okay, too.
Last year, Luke Reed and I were guests at Gamicon, and we got snowed into Iowa City (the State Patrol closed I-35 in Iowa and Minnesota). Jarod and Gigi took us into their home, took us out to eat and meet their friends.
Please keep us updated!

At least meeple can't drown (can't sink, for that matter).
All kidding aside...I hope you and your area's communities can recover soon.

All of us in the midwest are hoping not the see "chance of thunderstorms" in the forecast for a long, long time. It's been quite a season. The shop owners sound like great people, and I just hope their insurance pays out.

Lest I get what I justly deserve in the afterlife for thumbing the critical hit joke, I, too, offer sincere condolence to the Critical Hit store, and hope their flood insurance covers everything.

I'm guessing the original source is the Iowa City Press-Citizen, but I don't know that for sure.

That's pretty crazy, as I was just up there last month for AGoT regionals. Everything appears to be ok considering the circumstances, but my sympathies extend to Jerod et al. in the area.
Best of luck with the relocate, enjoy some time off!

There were some floods here some months ago, my first thought was: "Wow, hope the FLGSs had time to put away the games!"

Yep. Really tired of the storms. My poor daughter is terrified of thunderstorms now.
We've had them like every day for a couple of weeks now.

Critical Hit was a super place to play, run by an incredible couple. I hope they can financially weather this downtime and get up and running again somewhere soon. I don't think that particular strip mall will be ready for occupancy for awhile.
I'm high and dry, but just about everyone I know has been affected somehow by the floods. And it will take a lot of time and hard work to get things working again. Roads to resurface, bridges to repair, utilities to get operational, buildings to clean out or tear down, etc.

Drove past the store Sunday afternoon. They'd just opened the strip to traffic on Saturday, but First Avenue was still closed. Looks like it's just about dry in front of the store, though cleanup will be a real chore. I don't know if Jerod and Gigi are planning on going back in there or not. At least it's good to see the water receding, and some normalcy will undoubtedly begin to return to Coralville, though slowly.
