Don't discount games sold at Target, Toys R Us or Wal-Mart just yet. They may not be hip to the Euro-groove quite yet; They may still be selling three-thousand different versions of Monopoly and Clue; but lo-and-behold, they actually sussed out a decent title.
No, it doesn't have Zombies, or Robots, or Orcs, or Goblins, but it does have........squares.
SQUARES?!?!
Are you serious? Squares? Is that the best we could come up with?
Turns out that yes, it is, and actually, that's all it needs. The game gives you the immediate reaction of it being a turn-based Tetris when opening it, and has a very replayable game tucked inside.
So strap in and turn off your imagination, because all you'll need is your mind, a good sense of spatial skills and a willingness to constantly adapt in order to enjoy this game.
The box is large, and the pieces make a ton of noise. Just the kind of thing I like when I pick up a box. When you see the contents of the box in their nice little triangular holders you can't help but play with them.
After the first few games you quickly keep those triangles in the box and simply lay your tiles out in front of you to get a better view.
The game will take minutes to learn and hours upon hours to get really good at. Fully expect your first game to go horribly. You'll go into it thinking that your preconceived strategy is going to whoop some ass, but you'll be sorely mistaken as you get pidgeon-holed into a corner and have half your pieces left.
Never fear, the strategy learning curve is quick and the tricks you'll learn from watching the rest of the people play for a few minutes are easy to assimilate into your repertoire.
So take the next four and a half minutes of your life and let us take you into this game. Great for a gift, and great for you to introduce your new friends to abstract gaming with, Blokus is a square meal of fun.

The only critique I could possibly give is when Brian was showing the blocking example (about 3min 05sec. into the vidcast) the colors were not distinctive enough in the example.
Other than that, WOOHOO!
Btw...I like the Blokus games I've tried (haven't tried Trigon yet) better than Gemblo. Gemblo was just a bit much with the thick pieces, a bit fumbly to me.
And TJ, saw the You Tube comments. Get some phone numbers and party like a rock star!!! (Never thought I'd see abstract/vidcast groupies...)
